INT.CHURCH. NIGHT
PARIS
Turn that light off! I can’t bear the judgement of people seeing me
like this. Go! And If you hear or see anyone coming this way, signal
me with a whistle.
PAGE nods his head turns off the light and gives PARIS the flowers.
PARIS
Oh my love, my sweet sweet love. Look what death has done to you,
you are paler than the moon.
PAGE whistles
Hold my love.
ROMEO
Give me the pickaxe and the crowbar.
BALTHASAR gives ROMEO the props. ROMEO takes the props and hands
BALTHASAR a letter.
ROMEO
Here, give this letter to my father as soon as the sun rises. No
later, no earlier.
BALTHASAR
Of course, sir.
ROMEO
Promise that no matter what happens between now and dawn, you will
not interfere nor tell anyone where I am, promise me…Promise me!
BALTHASAR
I promise young sir.
ROMEO
Thank you, my good friend. Now leave me!
BALTHASAR exits.
ROMEO shines his torch at the tomb then walks slowly towards it.
ROMEO
Lord if you can hear me, have mercy on what I am about to encounter.
ROMEO
My sweet love.
PARIS steps out from the stone pillar and confronts ROMEO.
PARIS
You villainous Montague! How dare you intrude on a holy site! Hold
your devils’ tongue while I beseech you!
PARIS takes out a knife and aims it at ROMEO. ROMEO stands back with
pleading arms.
ROMEO
Paris, I plead you! I come here with nothing but grace and honour
for Juliet!
PARIS
It is your villanos blood and crime that killed my Juliet.
ROMEO
Paris I plead you! Put the knife down!
PARIS
…She loved you…I knew that…but I loved her so much I was willing ti
let it go, to give myself to her and rid my dark thoguhts of you.
But you, and your charms and wit bewitched her!
ROMEO
Believe me, there is no one in this world that can hate me more than
I hate myself. I have come here to poison the sins I have committed,
and bury them in the ground where they once grew. Please let me take
this upon myself.
Then I must not let it, if you want to pay for your crimes you can
pay for it in hell!
PARIS goes towards ROMEO in order to grab him, but before PARIS can
reach him Romeo plunges his pickaxe into PARIS’s stomach. PARIS
looks up at ROMEO then at his chest. He then falls to the ground.
ROMEO
I’m sorry.
PARIS dies.
ROMEO
Never have I touched a hand as cold as this. Yet it has not yet
ruined your beauty…words cannot express the sheer guilt I feel for
my part in Tybalt’s death, yet I do not feel guilt for my reasons
why. I never intended to cause your family harm…I never intended to
cause you, my sweet love, any harm.
ROMEO takes out the poison from his pocket and looks at it.
With this hand, I take a vow, once again to love and worship you, to
honour you, and take care of you, wherever we may be.
The camera then cuts to a wide angled shot where we see Friar
Lawrence shoulder come in. Tis then cuts to a close up of his
reaction.
JULIET
Romeo? Romeo? ROMEO?!!!
FRIAR LAWRENCE
Come Juliet, this is not a sight to be seen.
JULIET
Leave me! You said it would be alright, you said Romeo would be here
to take me away, that we’d be together, way from disaster.
FRIAR LAWRENCE
Juliet!
FRIAR LAWRENCE tugs at Juliet’s arm.
JULIET
Leave me!!!
JULIET
Oh Romeo, whyfore have you done this for you foolish boy? I pray you
hear me, squeeze my hand, cusp my lips, just be present with me my
love.
JULIET hears noises coming her way. She then sees a pickaxe next to
the tomb. She takes it.
JULIET
Forever.
JULIET kills herself.
BLACKOUT.
CUT TO:
PRINCE
A glooming peace this morning with it brings. We lay here upon our
peace amongst the two lovers whose stars had crossed once. A
Montague and a Capulet both ridden by love and passion seek their
fortunes amongst the dead, whilst the peace in Verona is restored
between two family’s that once led by hate and unworthy fortune. We
grieve as one, and unite as night comes. For never was a story of
more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo.
