Abstract

“The resources in the world are finite and though the desire of resources is infinite”. Ration distribution system is one kind of
widely controversial offices that involves corruption and prohibited smuggling of goods. This happens because it involves
manual work and there are no exact hi-tech technologies to automate the job. To overcome this problem the customary ration
card system is replaced by “Automatic ration material distribution system”, this system uses authenticated finger print from
automatized ration shop. This system provides products with precise weight and unnecessary selling of goods can be avoided.
This system also brings the transparency between the government and users.

Keywords: automatic, ration, distribution

I. Introduction

One of the largest retail systems in the world is India’s ration distribution system. The motto is to provide ration materials to the
people below poverty line in affordable price. This was launched in India on June 1997 by government of India. Approximately 5lakh
fair price shops are there in India. The responsibility of distributing food materials is shared between centre and state government. The
central government takes a responsibility of interstate transport of food materials from procuring to consuming states, as well as
delivering food materials to the state goodowns. Identity of families below poverty line and distribution of food materials to the end of
consumers is the responsibility of state government. Nowadays ration card is very important for every home and used to get family
members details for various purposes such as , to get gas connection it act as address proof for various purposes etc. people below
poverty line use the ration card to buy the various food materials from the fair price shop . But this system has two main drawbacks
like, firstly weight of materials may be inaccurate due to human mistakes, secondly if the customers do not buy the ration at the end of
the month, the shop owner may sell the materials to the others without any intimation to the government and customers and it is time
consuming too. To overcome this drawback, we propose a system called “Automatic ration material distribution system” based on
GSM (global system for mobiles) technology instead of ration cards. This system provides the materials automatically without help of
humans.

II. Need of the project.

In this project we target to eliminate five main problems that are very much common in fair price shops. They are:

1. Fraudulency in distributing the materials.

2. Inaccuracy in weight of the materials.
3. Wastage of materials.
4. Time consuming process.

III. Literature Survey

• Shivabkakt Mhalasakant Hanamant [1]. “Atomization of Rationing System”. In this paper the ration shop distribution system
is atomized. The data base is being maintained at one main control station. So the shop keeper cannot cheat the consumers.
• Priyanka V.mane and Uroosa hippargi [2].”Mechanized Government Rationing System”. In this paper the normal ration
shops are improved to automatic billing payment process. Here they are using Aadhar card instead of ration card for security
function. The consumers must scan the Aadhar card, then the controller will display the family details and the user will be
verified with the help of fingerprint.
• M.elizabeth Sherine and Shinu Sadeyono [3]. “NFC Based Stock Maintenance and Billing Payment. This paper provides
auto alert to the consumer. The stock details are maintained automatically and also intimate the consumers on the arrival of
new stock.

• S.vennel Venkatraman [4].”Automatic Ration Distribution System using PLC Method”. This method replaces the ration card
by food card and used to distribute the materials automatically. During this time the stock details are connected to the
government through GSM module.

IV. Existing System

In the current system first the consumer’s finger print is authenticated. He produces his ration card to the shop supervisor and card ID
need to be entered to the government database. The consumer’s family details and the amount of the materials allotted by the
government will be displayed on system. According to the amount of materials allotted by the government, the supervisor individually
weighs each material and packs it to the consumer.

V. Methodology

The following features are implemented in the proposed system:

• A message is sent to both government and the consumer which eliminates fraudulency
• Accurate weight of materials is delivered to the consumers.
• No human interference which avoids food wastage.
• Saves time as all the processes are automated.

VI. Proposed System Block Diagram

Once when the goods arrive to the fair price shop and it is loaded into the system a message is sent to each consumer to collect the
items at the particular alloted time. To get the Materials, first the consumers have to place their finger on the biometric system and
then consumer's finger print is verified by the controller. On verification the details of the consumer is displayed on the LCD display.
Using the 1x4 keypad, the consumer inputs which materials he requires and this information is fed to the ARM controller. After the
information about the materials is acquired, the materials from the storage container falls on to the weighing plate by the help of the
stepper motor which controls the opening of the container. This in turn is controlled by the ARM processor. The accuracy of the
weight of the materials is also controlled by the ARM processor and can be cross verified for its accuracy using a weighing machine
.When the required weight of the materials accumulates on the weighing plate, with the help of a DC motor we program it such a way
that the materials fall on to the consumer's bag. Once this is done an intimation message is sent to both the government and the
consumer informing that he has obtained his share of the materials for the specific month.

ARM 7TDMI-S is very much suitable for transmitting and receiving data to and from GSM and ZIGBEE module. It offers an
impressive real time operation as a small and low cost microcontroller. LCD display is used to display the details of the consumer and
the ration materials for selection. GSM stands for global system for mobile is a second generation cellular standard designed to cater
voice services and data delivery using digital modulation. It's used to communicate between the government and the consumer.
Fingerprint module is used to authenticate the consumer. Stepper motors are mainly used for measurement and control applications.
One of the important property of these motors are that they convert a train of input pulses into precisely defined increment in shaft
movements. Load cell is used on the measurement of objects.

In embedded C data is taken from external devices hence they don't need standard input or output functions. It enables the compiler to
include the architecture of the controller. KEIL software is quick and easy to use and guarantee to achieve Design goals. It is the only
debugger that completely simulates on all on-chip peripherals. Flash magic is a software that allows easy access to all the ISP features
provided by the devices. It provides a clear and simple user interface while erasing or programming or reading flash memory.

VI. Advantages.

The advantages of this system are:

• The existing ration distribution system can be replaced by the proposed system which is automated and more efficient.
• This system can also be used in departmental shops to pack the materials.
• Human interference is reduced which makes this system efficient.
• Saves time hence more number of people can be served.

VII. Conclusion and Future Work

In this paper we have implemented and tested an automatic ration material based on finger print and GSM technology. This is a much
more efficient system then the existing system. The system is accurate when it comes to measuring weight of the materials. In this
system the materials are distributed automatically without help of humans. Furthermore many features can be added to the system
such as automatic billing, in cases where the consumer might be having some disabilities where we cannot obtain his finger print
technologies such as iris scan or facial recognition can be used. Since this system is mainly targeted as avoiding fraudulency,
investing in some authenticating technologies may be expensive but proves to be fruitful in the long run.
