 Caution: Duration to perform Midterm Assessment is 02 hours only. Extra 01 hour is given to
cater all kinds of odds in submission of Answer-sheet. Therefore, if you failed to upload
answer sheet on LMS (in PDF format) within 03 hours limit, you would be considered as
ABSENT/FAILED.

Question # 1 [8 Marks]
Use your C-NIC number to create first thirteen numbers of the initial key for AES cipher in sequence. Use last three
digits of your student-ID as the last three numbers of the key. All of these values are in decimal. Complete the initial
key and expand it to find round-1 key (i.e. K1)

Question # 2 [12 Marks]


The CT produced after applying S-DES on a block of PT is 11110000. The round keys used during encryption for
both rounds are binary values of first and last letter of your first-name respectively. Find the corresponding plain
text.

Question # 3 [8 Points]
How a cipher can be judged whether it is a good cipher or not? First enlist what parameters would you select to
judge it. Second, on the basis of these parameters find whether the DES is a good cipher or not by giving proper
justifications. Also explain how modes of ciphers are related with it.

Question # 4 [6 Points]
Encrypt the full name of your father using Play-fair cipher. Take your first name as a keyword. Also decrypt it to
verify the answer.

Question # 5 [6 Points]
Discuss the security of RSA for the following cases:
 P is prime q is not prime, both are very large numbers
 P and q both are not prime, both are very large numbers
 P and q both are prime, both are in the range of 1-100
Take some unique random dummy values for each scenario to justify your claim
