First of all, big thanks to Allah SWT who has giving us mercise and blessing so we can attend and
gather in this nice place without any trouble and obstacle.
Secondly, sollawat and salam always be given to our prophet Muhammad SAW who has guide us from
the darkness to the lightness namely Islam.
Thirdly , My name is M. Halimi I would like to convey my undergraduate thesis with the tittle is “The
Influence of Using Duolingo Application on the Students Writing Skill of the Eleventh Graders at SMK
Muhammadiyah Sekampung East Lampung”.
A study that aims to determine whether the Duolingo application can affect the writing ability of class
Eleven (XI) students of SMK Muhammadiyah Sekampung Lampung Timur..
Duolingo is a language-learning platform--accessible both as a website and as an Android or iOS app--
which launch for general public use just over eight years ago, in June, Two thousand and twelve (2012).
In this research, In this study, researchers focused only on the problem of vocabulary mastery of
students who were still having difficulty writing.
This type of research the writer uses is quantitative research. According to Khotari, C.R. quantitative
research was based on measurement of quantity or amount.
To conduct this research, Researchers use the written test as a method of data collection to measure the
application of the Duolingo Application to students' writing ability.
To conduct the analysis of the data, the researcher used the scoring from Heaton with the steps as follows:
1) First, the researcher reads all the students' descriptive texts and tries to understand the information
conveyed.
2) The second step is the coding process. For this part the researcher makes several categories of results
done by students.
3) Scoring and Interpreting Data .
The results of the normality test in this study were: Pre-test Sig. = 0.003, post-test Sig. = 0.802. Then
the results of the Sig homogeneity test. = 0.286. The t-test results that have been calculated using the
Independent sample t-test formula at the significant level (2-tailed) are 0.000 which is smaller than alpha 0.05.
Based on these conditions, Ho was rejected, meaning that there was a positive and significant influence on the
use of the Duolingo application on the writing ability of class XI students of SMK Muhammadiyah
Sekampung Lampung Timur.
