Screenwriters, if you have struggled to break in over these last few years, please
know that from all I’ve heard it’s never been harder.

Both for established pros at all levels and those trying to break in.

It has almost nothing to do with you level of ability. /1

A lot of sweeping changes plus a pandemic plus an over reliance on IP plus other factors make for a perfect storm
of closed door fuckery.

My only advice is to not wait for the gates to open. Open your own gates. Make something. A podcast. A YouTube
series. Anything. /2

Also, for what it’s worth, I think social media makes success seem more common than it really is…

This used to be a 10 year game for people wanting to break in.

And even now, there really are no shortcuts.

This is my way of saying keep going.

Not to push my own podcast, but we interviewed 50 REALLY successful people… and they all had HUGE low
points in their careers. YEARS of little to no work. YEARS to break in.

This has never been a business of overnight successes.
