TRUE LEARNINGS
At the time of my final exams last year, when my only two exams were
left, COVID-19 started spreading its legs in India. The whole country was in
a shock. My last two exams were also got cancelled. I was really excited
for the my results and awards but everything was changed now, there was
totally shut-down in a trice and the life came to a stand-still. There was a
lot of hustle and bustle in the minds of the people.

After the lockdown was announced, my mom began worrying for the daily
wagers who were then stranded on the city roads. Most migrant workers in
the city did not have any roof on their heads. Many started living in the
shelter homes and many managed on roads in the shaded corners. Dry
ration was not of much help to them and my mom wanted to help them so
she took permission from the local authorities to serve food to the
workers.

Firstly, she started cooking ten meals per day, and then she started
preparing seventy meals per day, with the help of other members of our
society. Soon, she started making 200 meals in the big utensils which she
borrowed from our caterer friends, with the help of two maids living in our
house, as they didn’t have any family behind so we were their family.

The idea spread among the network of my father’s friend who was running
an NGO and then the project ‘Pet Bhar Khana’ was born. With the support
of that NGO, the project started serving meals in the slum areas of Noida
too.

I shared my this experience here, because this was the real learning for me
because I learnt sharing and caring for others, I learnt that, serving to
society’s needy people, makes you better human-being, and I also learnt
that by giving happiness to others, make us happier. My mother’s caring
and empathetic behaviour during this tough time taught me the best
lessons of my life, which I couldn’t have learnt through any formal
education. I had read so many moral stories earlier, but I actually learnt
moral values and empathy at this tough time of Corona.

While helping others, my mother still took care of our studies too. She was
like Goddess Sarasvati for me. I read a lot of books also on different topics
at that time, as my library ma’am Ms. Tanvinder Kaur always motivated us
to be keen readers. She always taught us that, books are the best friends
which help us to gain a lot of information and knowledge which we can use
wisely in our lives. Our school also has a background of JSS
Mahavidhyapeetha Charitable Trust so we always get to learn about
humanity and kindness from our school too.

At the end I will only say, that I am very much proud of my mother, she
has always taught me through real life examples. She always finds time for
me. While my mother was convalescent; she still continued to support
others.
