WEEK 1

25/7
ONLINE BRIEFING: Online briefing with company supervisor regarding the new intake of
the internship. The briefing was conducted online and the supervisor briefed regarding the
projects that will be conducted during the internship period.
26/7
ATTENDENCE : Attendence and weekly meeting. Due to pandemic the supervisions of the
supervisor was conducted fully online hence, the google calendar and attendences issue was
fully online prepared and the internship students need to install few apps to ease the
management.
27/7
DATA COLLECTION OF WATER QUALITY: Non point sources does not come from a
single source unlike point sources. Land activities and practices within a catchment
contribute to the accumulation of pollutant loads as a result of stormwater washes off.
According to the present global practices, pollution from the NPS sources can be calculated
using the Event Mean Concentration (EMC) Method. This is the most common method to
estimate pollution loading due to storm runoff. In this method, stormwater samples are taken
at various intervals to study the quality of storm runoff during the whole rain event.
28/7
INFORMATION RESEARCH. Regarding the proposed project of stormwater management,
the method calculation of Non Point Sources are different with Point Source. NPS use Event
Mean Concentration to calculate NPS. Event Mean Concentration is the flow weighted mean
concentration of the pollutants. Many academics have determined that point-source pollution
is easier to identify based on their studies comparing point and non-point sources. Hence the
information and formula of the methods was used
29/7
FACTORS INFLUENCE NPS :
1. Non-point sources are spread, cover important areas, and operate either in response to
human activities or as “background pollution” of natural lands
2. Non-point source pollution is related to land management and geological and
hydrological variables and may change daily or annually
3. Non-point sources are produced and transported as part of the hydrological cycle.
Surface runoff transports eroded soil particles from porous areas. It also absorbs and
transports contaminants deposited in impervious areas. Groundwater transports
pollutants from septic tanks and landfills
4. Urban runoff contains suspended solids, metals, bacteria, aerobics, nutrients, and fats.
Sources of these pollutants comprise vehicles, fertilizer and pesticide applications,
animal manure, construction activities, and road pickling.
5. Non-urban pollutants are often associated with agricultural activities. Agricultural
pollutants comprise pesticides, sediments, nutrients, and organic substances
