What is Sacred Worship?

The Sacred Worship committee is part of the Parish Pastoral

Council. This committee helps to prepare and ensure the proper
celebration of the liturgy. In addition to weekly Sunday liturgy,
the parish Sacred Worship Committee concerns itself with the
proper celebration of all the sacraments. It focuses on other
rites and devotions and their celebrations as well: funerals,
weddings, communion prayer services, memorial celebrations,
vigil services, morning and evening prayer, Marian devotions,
and stations of the cross. It also helps to set up other parish
programs such as Eucharistic Ministers to the sick and
homebound and the Prayer Shawl Ministry.

Art and Décor (Sacristan)

The sacristan and our sacristy crew of volunteers take care of the physical
preparations of the worship space for the celebration of liturgy. The seasonal
environment coincides with the liturgical year, with seasonal feasts and solemnities
and other sacramental liturgies that occur in the parish. It is also the role of the
sacristan to prepare the necessary furnishings, etc. for the various ministries. These
include the Presider, deacon, servers, lectors, and Eucharistic ministers. The sacristan
oversees the day-to-day maintenance of liturgical objects and arrangement and
maintenance of flowers and plants used in liturgical décor.

Parish Prayer Chain

Our parish Prayer Chain is made up of parishioners who desire to reach out to those
in need by praying for them. It’s members believe that this is a way of letting one
another in our parish family know that they are not alone in their need but rather
have the concern and support of others who care about them and who believe that
God cares even more and does answer prayers.
Servers
Our servers are young men or women in the 5th grade or older, who assist the
Presider at the altar during all liturgical celebrations. Being a server means serving
God and His people at Mass by helping prepare the altar and sanctuary before Mass,
helping the priest and people carry special objects, and carry out special actions
during the Mass. All new servers go through a period of training with the Pastor and
begin serving after adequate instruction.

Videographers
Our Videographers are volunteer parishioners who videotape one of the Sunday
Masses each week. With the support of River Cities Public Access, these tapes are
then broadcast on public access TV (channel 4) later in the day for viewers who are
homebound and may be unable to physically attend Mass.

Leader of Prayer
The Leader of Prayer is for Lay Ministers who have gone through the Diocesan Lay
Formation and Leader of Prayer Programs and have been commissioned by the
Bishop.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

This Ministry consists of people who wish to prayerfully knit or crochet shawls in which
to enfold other people in need of comfort and solace. They can be for anyone in need
that is experiencing illness, depression, loneliness, or for a happy occasion such as
graduation, a new mother, a bride or someone away at College The Prayer Shawl group
meets the 3rd Thursday of September, January and April in the Parish Library from
1-2:30pm. There are also additional knitters that aren’t able to attend the meetings and
knit in their homes. For more information: www.shawlministry.com.

Pastoral Council
There are Two Councils in each parish; Finance and Pastoral

The Parish Pastoral Council is the principal consultative body in the parish. Members
can be elected by the whole parish or appointed by the pastor. There are 4
sub-committees of the Pastoral Council: Sacred Worship, Social Justice, Family Life,
and Catholic Education.

The Sacred Worship Committee is dedicated to promoting and enhancing the

consecrated liturgical celebrations of the Mass and other sacraments. A celebration
is the work of the whole body of Christ; the ministers and members of the
congregation all have a part in the action. The liturgical ministers serve a significant
role in adding beauty and solemnity to the celebration. The areas of ministry are...
