SKIP COUNTING

A. Introduction
• What does it mean to skip anything?

Skip means to pass or leave.

In mathematics, skip counting is
defined as the method of
counting numbers in a forward
manner by skipping/leaving some
numbers other than 1.
To skip count by a number, we keep adding the same number each
time to the previous number.
Here, we are doing skip counting by 2 on a number line.
So, start at 0,
the next numbers :
0 + 2 = 2,
2 + 2 = 4,
4 + 2 = 6,
6 + 2 = 8, and, 10, 12, 14, 16, and so
on.

To skip count, you need to add the

same number over and over. You
can start at any number. When
you normally count (like
1,2,3,4,5,6), you add 1 to get the
next number. To count by 2s, you
add 2 to get the next number.

• Skip Counting in 3s

To skip count by 3, you need to add 3 to each number to get the next
number. Starting at zero and adding 3 to every number,
0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, and so on.

• Skip Counting in 4s

Skip Counting by 4s is:

4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40,

• Skip Counting in 5s

Skip Counting by 5s has a nice pattern: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45,
50, ... That pattern should make it easy for you!

• Skip Counting in 10s

Skip counting by 10s means adding ten to the previous number or

jump by 10. Each number is ten more than the previous number. If
the 1st number is an odd number, then the next number after
adding ten will be an odd number. And if the 1st number is an even
number, then the next number will be an even number.
