I. Directions: Discuss the following.


1. Open-Conditional Statements
This is an idea in one of the branches of Linguistics; Semantics. It talks
about how the sentence is being constructed. For example, “All single
men are bachelors” the sentence provides an information that is true and
redundant.
2. Motherese
It is a way on how the mothers talk or approach to the children.
3. Paraphrase
It is a writing technique in which tried to shorten a long text in a more
comprehensive and substantial without getting away the meaning of the
context.
4. Acquisition
It is a process on how the students assimilate and acquire language.
5. Robert Yerkes
He is a psychologist who first introduced the idea or concept of “Sign
Language”
6. First Language
It is called and considered the “native language”.
7. Foreignizing
A speaking skill in which the speaker says a word in his native language,
but tried to imitate and produce sounds that are patterned in the second
language
8. Jean Piaget
An American Psychologist who’s primarily concerned is more on ‘cognitive
development’. He stressed out that children learned language through
listening.
9. Human Vocal Tract
It is responsible for producing human sounds.
10. Baby Talk
It is how children uses language at first hand.
11. Morphology
A branch of Linguistics that dealt with the concept or study of unit of
words.
12. Verbal Communication
It is the use of lexical ability joint their phonological idea in expressing their
thoughts.
13. Speech Accommodation
It is how the listener achieved and assimilated set of instructions
depending to the person they are speaking with.
14. Language Learning
A concept in which the learners learned the native and new language.
15. Mother Tongue
It is considered as the first language or native language.
16. Infixes
These are morphemes added in between of the word.
17. Bound Morpheme
A unit of word or letters added to the root word to produce a new set of
word. Bound Morpheme cannot be considered a word, because it doesn’t
have meaning,
18. Pidgin
Words are created between two nationalities to understand each other is
called Pidgin.
19. Psycholinguistics
This deals with the analysis of the use of language to be able to
comprehend and use in a context.
20. Lingua Franca
It is defined and synonymous to the word ‘Language’.

II. ESSAY
1. Cite the importance of English Language in five or more sentences.

English Language is considered a dominant language especially in the


world of business, education, and progress. It is highly intellectual in such
a way that it can be understood by many. It is important to study, since we
are boxed to the concept that to be able to be globally competitive you
should comprehend and express using the language. One of the
qualifications in the work employment is that you should use language
spontaneously and fluently. And to jive yourself and to be considered as
‘market ready’

2. Discuss the essence of

Sociolinguistics- It is an amalgamation of Society and Linguistics. It


explains how social variation affects language and how language used by
the society. This examines only the relationship of the individual used of
language and its social basis

Psycholinguistics- it is the study of the relationships between linguistic


behaviour and psychological processes including the process of language
acquisition

Biolinguistcis – is the study of the biology and evolution of language. It is


a highly interdisciplinary field, including linguistics, biologists and others.
