Hello everyone,

Several review articles have shown the how genetic testing would influence the future patient

care and practice. There have been several cases of patients with poor genetic composition that

predisposes them to certain infections. However, genetics can’t be ignored or avoided.

A major concern is how do we provide genetic testing to individuals from low socio-economic

status, those who lack insurance and those with little knowledge regarding consequences of

genetics in health. Genetic testing is quite costly and only those that are well of are able to afford

such cost. Genetic testing is crucial in diagnosis of certain diseases, therefore those who are able

to afford such service can be diagnosed with diseases early and given the necessary treatment.

For people who are unable to afford genetic testing, they may not receive the necessary treatment

incase of presence of any genetic disease. This is because the genetic disease is undetected

without gene testing (Terry & Westreich, 2019).

However, there are legal and ethical related issues that arise from genetic testing. For instance,

some people may want to conduct a genetic test during their prenatal care to determine whether

they want to terminate or keep the pregnancy based on the finding of the results. In my own

opinion, this scope is way beyond what benefits genetic testing may offer to people around the

world especially in the health care sector. Genetic counselling can be effective among couples,

and with the aid of genetic testing, it will help prevent chances of having cases of hereditary

genetic diseases in families (Cavalli, 2016).

In conclusion, I think genetic testing will be great importance I our society as compared to its

demerits. Screening of genetic diseases to determine appropriate therapy will hugely contribute

to saving lives.
