Micro-Project Report

A Digital Clock

1.0 Aim of the micro-project:

A time-base or counter that keeps time and is the heart of the clock, or its heartbeat. Components which
break down the time base into components: seconds, minutes & hours.
Some way of displaying the time.

2.0 Rtionale:
A digital clock is a type of clock that displays the time digitally (i.e. in numerals or other symbols), as opposed to
an analog clock, where the time is indicated by the positions of rotating hands. The times derived by analog clocks
come from either a pendulum or a spring. Pendulums are unusable on moving platforms, such as a ship, and springs
unwind more and more slowly as they release stored up tension. The use of sweep hands allowed these mechanical time
bases to be presented in a mechanically driven display. With the perfecting of multivibrator chips, electrical circuits
could be built that could accurately keep time under a wide range of conditions. The clock to be designed is something
like MM : SS, which represents Minutes and seconds respectively.

3.0 Actual Methdology Followed:

• Studied the selective topic.

• Gathered information about the topic.
• Create a program and check the output.
• Implanted in word file.

4.0) Course Outcomes:

1. Analysic on arithmetic Circuit.
2. improve Basic Knowledge,thinking ability.
3.learn to design circuits using logic gates.
4.Helps to solve computer and electronic releted problem.

Literature review:

walks of life, digitals system are making sophisticated approach to the mankind. Of course the machines
cannot be replaced by human beings in exact accuracy in some fields. For a long time humans were using
analog devices in our case analog clocks in their daily life. The first digital pocket watch was the invention
of Austrian engineer Josef Pallweber who created his "jump-hour"mechanism in 1883. Instead of a
conventional dial, the jump-hour featured two windows in an enamel dial, through which the hours and
minutes are visible on rotating discs. The second hand remained conventional. By 1885 Pallweber
mechanism was already on the market in pocket watches by Cortébert and IWC; arguably contributing to
the subsequent rise and commercial success of IWC. The principles of Pallweber jump-hour movement had
appeared in wristwatches by the 1920s (Cortébert) and are still used today (Chronoswiss Digiteur). While
the original inventor didn't have a watch brand at the time, his name has since been resurrected by a newly
established watch manufacturer

Procedure:-

1. At first we made the circuit of 555 timer, with the help of 555 timer IC and two resistors of values 10kand
2.2kΩ, and two capacitors of 100µFand 10nF.

2. Then 0-5 counter circuit was made with the help of 555 timer, IC 74LS93 (which is a 4-bit Binary counterIC) and IC
74LS47 (which is a BCD to seven segment display IC).

3. 1 Hz square wave was given as a clock from the 555 timer to the 4-bit binary counter (74LS93).

4. After making the internal connections of the IC 74LS93, we connected the Qa,Qb,Qc and Qd pins of the7493 IC to
give the four bit binary input to the 74LS47( BCD to seven segment decoder).

5. After making the internal connections of IC 74LS47, we connected the, a, b, c, d, e, f and g pins of 7447to the
corresponding pins of the Seven segment display.

6. The SSD used in this clock is Common anode, so its common pin was connected to the Vcc, and thepins were
connected to the 7447 IC.

9.0)Future uses of Digital Clock:
*Timer operation is based on Aps said. A special software keeps track of all the
meetings, dates and people that play a role in the life of the owner. Based on the
information collected, an algorithm can be developed, which is then used to calculate
the probability of future events. Thus, the digital wristwatch Valley Dor predict the
future.

* A new digital watch can predict the future of its owner. Designed bydesigner
Valley Dor Tel Aviv, Israel, clock collects and interprets information from the
daily routine and can be important.

*To set the date and alaram of.
