How to use this study guide

This is a study guide which is designed to help you learn by guiding you to
find out about important topics and to make use of the data and
information that you have collected to be able to understand the
Introduction toGSM and mobile phones. This is not a textbook – much of
what you need to know and do will be discovered as you follow the study
guide.

1. Keep Your Own Notes: Make yourself a file and keep notes on all the
topics we will be covering so that you can readily refer back to them as we
go through the course.

2. Do all the Exercises: You would not expect to learn to play the guitar
by reading a book about it – you must be prepared to spend time doing the
exercises and to learn by doing. Do not be afraid of making mistakes –
learn from your mistakes, practice the exercises until you are comfortable
with the concept you are learning. Do not skip over any section – you will
need to be competent in it as a foundation for future work. Remember to
keep notes on what you are learning!

3. Participate in Group Work: The skill of working in and with a team is

critical to your success in GSM and mobile phone repairs, so enjoy team
work and learning from others.

4. Assess Your Progress: You will find a short self-assessment test which
is included to help your learning by giving you immediate feedback on how
you are doing.

5. Formative Assessment: Throughout the course the facilitator will be

assessing progress in both your own individual and group work and will

point out areas that you have achieved competence in and areas that you
should give more attention to.

6. Summative Assessment: When the course facilitator and you are both
confident that you can use what you have learned to do you will be
referred to an assessor who will assess your competence – you may be
asked to answer a practical question paper or do some practical tests to
satisfy the assessor that you have achieved competence in this area of
study.

Symbols are placed in the left hand margin to draw attention to the type of
information at that point. The symbols used in this manual are:

Read

Discuss - Sometimes your instructor will

demonstrate/discuss the use of tools and
equipment.

Check your Progress - These are easy exercises to

test your understanding of the theory you have
learnt. Typical correct answers are provided at the
back of the manual.

Practical Activity - These activities help you to

Introduction

In this section of the training manual you will know the causes tripping off
fault on a mobile phone

Skill you will learn

By the end of this section, you will be able to

 Explain causes of tripping off in GSM mobile phone

 Perform reset and rebooting in mobile phone
 Diagnose and rectify the fault of tripping and rebooting

The causes of tripping off of mobile phone

If a mobile phone is powering off and on randomly all by itself? it just

power off then back on all by itself it said to be tripping off.

The causes of tripping off include the flowing

The causes of tripping off problem in mobile phone is not limited to

software

If the cause is from the operating system it said to be software causes but
if the cause is from hardware component. its hardware cause for example
if a fluid enter a mobile phone may cause a tripping off fault.

 Protective case cause. Some protective cases are a little too snug
and can actually put pressure on the power key causing the mobile
phone to start power off or on sporadically.

 Application s mobile phones are usually pretty solid as far as
operating systems go, and when they do have issues its often time
related to a bad application.
 Too match burden on the phone internal memory if store and install
much thing or application on internal storage. This may likely lead
your mobile phone to develop tripping off problem
 Hardware cause if any of the hardware component may cause
tripping off fault. For example a power key, battery terminal etc.

Below is picture of a mobile phone that develops tripping off problem

after installing an application.

how to diagnose and rectify tripping and rebooting

 Steps of diagnosing and rectifying a mobile phone that is having a

power-cycling problem (powering off and then back on).

 If the mobile phone is only power off and on by itself when

you’re doing something specific? For example if it only power
cycle when you’re playing a specific game or using a certain
application? If so then it’s probably a bad or poorly written
application and you might want to either consider not using it
any more or even contacting the software developer who wrote
it to let them know that there is an issue with their program.

 Remove any protective case So if this issue started occurring

after investigating in a protective cover, skin, etc

 Check the mobile phone protective case and see if it might be
turning your phone off and on. try it without the case to
simply and make sure. its not tide If you try it without its case
and the issue stops then return the case and see if you can get
one that’s a better fit for your phone.

 Remove the battery: If a mobile phone will allow you to

remove the battery then remove the battery cover or back
plate from the mobile phone and make sure that the battery is

nice and tight inside the battery compartment. If the battery is
loose then the leads on the battery that connect to the phone
might not be connecting properly and that might be what is
causing the problem. If those metal prongs stop touching then
the phone is not going to be able to pull power from the
battery and the phone is going to obviously tripping off

 Check the batteries condition

After you remove the back plate to make sure that the battery is nice and
snug pull the battery out of the phone and make sure it is still in good
shape. If you remove the battery and it looks warped or bloated, or rocks
back and forth on a flat surface, then the battery might indeed be bad and
requires replacement.

Now if it’s simply not a good connection because the battery is loose then
the leads from the battery and mobile phone might disconnect for mere
seconds then reconnect, removing the power and then supplying it again
giving us the powering off and on issue. So check your battery and make
sure that it’s nice and snug and that the metal leads on the mobile phone
and battery are staying connected to each other.

Check your application

Mobile phones are usually pretty solid as far as Operating Systems go, and
when they do have issues its often time related to a bad application. When
did you first notice this issue happening on your phone? Was it around the
same time that you downloaded an application

Applications can cause the problem, uninstall any applications that you
might have downloaded, or updated, around that time. Try the phone
without the application(s) and see if its fixes. after removing the
application from the mobile phone fixes the fault.

Upgraded Software

Did this happen after upgrading your mobile phone to a more up to date
mobile phone Operating System? If so then chances are it wasn’t a bad
upgrade but is the result of an application issue. An app on the phone

might not be getting along with the new Operating System and that might
be what’s causing the problem. Go through and remove some apps, try the
phone, remove some apps, try it again, until there are no more apps that
you personally downloaded onto the phone.

If you remove all the applications that you can from the phone and it’s still
powering off and on then it’s most likely a software issue, maybe not
caused by an application, but possibly a software glitch, bug, virus, etc. If
this power-cycling issue is a problem related to the software then resetting
the phone is most likely going to be rectifyed.

Reset mobile phone using external keys(hard reset)

Resetting a mobile phone is often a last resort for most situations but a
factory data reset on an mobile phone can often times fix most mobile
phone related issues, especially when it comes to software fault..

If the mobile phone will allow you to perform a factory setting Before going
into the settings and factory data resetting a mobile phone you flow a
step-by-step guide on how to backup the information saved on the mobile
phone first. Because a reset sets the mobile phone back to how it was
when its came off from the manufacturer. Mobile phone is going to think
it’s brand new again so make sure you save all the information first, so
that you don’t lose anything. But if the mobile will not allow the factory
reset then you perform a hard reset using external keys as is shown below.

But performing a hard reset on mobile phone lead to imformation loosing.

1. Flash is the last option in rectifying tripping off fault in mobile phone,
which means reprogramming the operating system of mobile phone to
think brand new

 Make sure of the type of mobile phone you are trying to flash a GSM or
CDMA phone. CDMA stands for Code Division Multiple Access.
 Get out your USB cord.
 Search for compatible flashing software
 Know what you want to flash your phone to.

How to perform reset and reboot mobile phone

Rebooting (restart) means to turn off a mobile phone and turn it back on
again. To reboot the phone, disconnect the cord supplying the electrical
power to the phone and plug it in back into the same port a few seconds
later.

Rebooting will just switch off mobile phone and then automatically switch it
on. .. Rebooting a mobile phone will not erase any data in your mobile
phone. Rebooting your phone is nothing but switching off (Shutting down)
and no.
