1 Introduction
Operating System:
STR_1602 is designed for Windows XP or Windows 7 (32 bit) Operating Systems.
It does not work with Windows 7 (64 bit).
Software:
NX workstation software version 2.0.8400/3.0.8400 has been released for the use of
DX-S digitizer software STR_1602.
For a complete and regularly updated list of compatible software versions refer to:
“CR/DR Interoperability Matrix” on Agfa Healthcare Library,
Intranet Link / Extranet Link
NOTE:
LED Erasure unit is supported from STR_1404 onwards.
SOFTWARE:
Digitizer software STR_1602, file “Errors.csv” and document “Installation Instruction
for STR_1602”, DD+DIS286.10E (this document) can be downloaded as .zip file from
Agfa Healthcare Library: File size: Approximately 35 MB, Intranet Link / Extranet Link.
REQUIRED TOOLS:
USB memory stick (checked to be virus-free) for transferring the downloaded software
to the control PC
DOCUMENTATION:
DX-S Service Bulletin No. 43 “DX-S Digitizer Software STR_1602 released“,
DD+DIS287.10E, Intranet Link / Extranet Link
REQUIRED TIME:
Approximately 50 minutes
Solved
For a detailed description of solved and open bugs of all Digitizer Software versions
and open
issues refer to Chapter 3.8 of the DX-S Service Documentation.
4 Installation Procedure
NOTE:
Windows paths may differ in Win XP and Win 7. Where this is the case the differences
are explicitly stated.
Figure 1
(6) In Win XP: Click Start / Settings / Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove
Programs
In Win 7: On the desktop, click Computer / Uninstall or change a program
NOTE:
• Before installing the software STR_1602, make sure that the minimum version of
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (dotnetfx.exe) and Microsoft Visual J# 2.0
Redistributable Package (vjredist.exe) are installed.
• For installations of STR_1602 (on NX 2.0.8100 / 3.0.8100 or NX 2.0.8200 /
3.0.8200 or higher) this check is not required, since the latest versions are
installed on these NX versions. Proceed with step (2).
(1) If the latest version of Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (dotnetfx.exe) and
Microsoft Visual J# 2.0 Redistributable Package (vjredist.exe) are not installed,
install them. The installers can be downloaded from the Microsoft homepage
(see section 2).
(3) Press the <Enter> key on the console window that pops up.

(15) Restart the Digitizer. Self test and establishment of the connection between
DX-S and control PC may need several minutes. When it establishes the
connection with the control PC, one or both of the following error messages may
appear on the PC screen:
Figure 7
NOTE:
This message only pops up when the DX-S and the control PC
have been connected for the first time or e.g. the hard disk of the
control PC has been changed.

Windows 7 uses a new driver model, but still ships the old (legacy) drivers for FireWire
(IEEE 1394). For the DX-S software, the legacy drivers need to be used. They have to
be activated as follows:
Figure 9
(2) Go to the IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers section and open it (e.g. by
double clicking).

(7) Click button <Configure Site with new EMS Serial Number>.
The correct SN is updated and written into the corresponding field.
(8) If the altitude of the installation site is between 2000 and 3000 m above sea
level, check the checkbox “Installation site is located higher than
2000m / 6562ft.”
(9) Connection is being interrupted, and then the DX-S and control PC re-connect
automatically.
If automatic connection fails, restart the DX-S Digitizer.
(10) Click button <OK> on the following message (the file name may differ):
(11) Continue with section 4.5 “Updating the Software on the Digitizer”.

Failure messages are displayed during nodes upload. They are due to the upload itself
and do not indicate a malfunction. They can be ignored.
Typical error codes (in numerical order) during the upload are:
(8) If it is a site between 2000 and 3000 m above sea level set the flag for high
altitude (if not yet done in section 4.4.1). See also section 5.
(9) Reboot the PC.

NOTE:
• For sites below 2000 m either the previous pump unit or the modified pump unit
can be used in combination with STR_1602.
• For sites between 2000 and 3000 m the modified pump unit must be installed
and certain settings must be made in the DX-S Service Client.
• Detailed information about availability of the modified pump unit (e.g. spare part
number) is communicated in the Service Bulletin No.26 “Modified Pump Unit
released for Use on Sites between 2000 and 3000 m above Sea Level”.
5.1 Checking whether the Digitizer Hardware is prepared for the Use on Sites
located between 2000 and 3000 m
To check whether the Digitizer hardware is prepared for the use on sites located
between 2000 and 3000 m the pump unit must be checked. To check whether the
modified pump unit is already installed, proceed as follows:
(1) Check the Serial Number (SN) of the Digitizer. The modified pump unit is
installed ex factory on DX-S Digitizers with Serial Numbers SN ≥ 1264.
(2) If the Serial Number of the Digitizer is not in this range and it has to be checked
if the Digitizer has already been upgraded with the modified pump unit, continue
with these steps:
.cdr
_001
_SB
5160
(7) If the part number on the label is F8.5160.8100.4 (index 4 or higher), the
modified pump unit is installed.
If no modified pump unit is installed the last index of the part number is < 4 and
the pump unit has to be replaced by the modified one.
5.2 Settings in the DX-S Service Client for the Use on Sites located between
2000 and 3000 m
IMPORTANT:
For sites below 2000 m this setting is not applicable.

(5) Click button <Update Site Specific Data>.
No confirmation will be shown!
(7) In the tree view, go back to Configuration / Site Specific Data and verify if the
button <Installation site is located higher than
2000m/6562ft> is checked.
