CHAPTER V

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The chapter presents the summary of findings, conclusions and

recommendations.

Summary

The following are the findings of the study:

The researchers formulated a survey questionnaire based on the main

objectives of the research, to determine the Academic Achievement, Self-

Efficacy and Mathematics is the Modern World Performance of the

respondents. The researchers prepared a self-made survey questionnaire and

conducted a survey among students of Notre Dame of Kidapawan College

that enrolled the Mathematics in the Modern World (GEC 5) in the school year

2020-2021 first semester. A descriptive statistics and ANOVA was used to

determine the Academic Achievement, Self-Efficacy and Mathematics is the

Modern World performance of the respondents. After the tally and analyzing

the results, the researchers found out that the respondents had excellent

academic achievement in SHS, indicating that they have a very satisfactory

academic achievement in terms of their General Mathematics subject. Which

means, there is a significant relationship between the SHS Academic

Achievement and the MIMW Performance.

In terms of the academic background, the researchers found out that

majority of the respondents enrolled in Academic track; Science, Technology,

Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in strand and majority of the

respondents come from private school. Academic Background in terms of

Track, Strand and School has no significant relationship with the MIMW

performance.

For the level of Self-Efficacy, the researchers found out that there is no

significant relationship between the Aspects of Learning Techniques in terms

of Psychological Aspects, Organization Aspects and Social Interaction

Aspects; Aspects of Time Management in terms of Forming Right Habits;

Aspects of Coping Mechanism in terms of Cognitive Aspects and Affective

Aspects; Aspects of Class Performance in terms of Collaborative Learning;

Aspects of Learning Distractions in terms of Environmental Factors and Online

Resources; and the Mathematics in the Modern World Performance. While

there is a significant relationship between the Aspects of Coping Mechanism

in terms of Learning Aspects, Aspects of Class Performance in terms of

Independent Learning and Aspects of Learning Distractions in terms of

Familial Concerns; and the Mathematics in the Modern World Performance.

The Mathematics in the Modern World Performance of the

respondents in terms of Final Grade S.Y 2020-2021 first semester, the

respondents have high performance in terms of their Mathematics in the

Modern World subject.

Conclusions

Based on the findings revealed in this study, the researchers concluded

that the Senior High School Academic Achievement has a relationship with the

performance of the respondents in the Mathematics in the Modern World

course. This means that the General Mathematics subject is one of the

predictors of the respondents. The higher the academic achievement that the

respondents have in SHS, the more possible that their performance in MIMW

is also high.

Based on the findings revealed in this study, the null hypothesis stating

that there is no significant relationship between the Academic Background in

terms of Track, Strand, and Type of School and the Mathematics in the

Modern World Performance is accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that

academic background can’t affect the performance of the respondents in

MIMW.
Therefore, Self-efficacy is a crucial aspect in achieving an outstanding

achievement in all fields explored by the respondents including Mathematics in

the Modern World performance. The findings of a study also explained that

self-efficacy is a determinant factor that affects work performance the most

and can be applied in the local context and public services (Halim, 2012).

The research findings can provide an overview of the importance of

mathematics self-efficacy on mathematics academic achievement. The total

findings of this study indicate that most respondents have high and moderate

scores in mathematics self-efficacy. Our findings also show that there are

Three significant relationships between mathematics self-efficacy and

mathematics in modern world performance. The results showed that most of

the respondents met the requirements of the respondents in doing math

assignments in online learning. Research is limited to Mathematics Education

students, so further research needs assessment and expansion of students in

schools.

Mathematics in the Modern World deals with the nature of Mathematics,

appreciation of its practical, intellectual, dimensions and application of

mathematical tools in daily life. The course begins with an introduction to the

nature of mathematics as an exploration of patterns.

Recommendations

Based on the findings, the Researcher recommends the following

1.
THESIS ABSTRACT
College mathematics achievement is often influenced by students’

mathematics self-efficacy. A major goal of this study was to develop a reliable,

valid, and efficient questionnaire to assess college students’ self-efficacy,

academic achievement, and Mathematics in the Modern World Performance.

Considering these, the researchers conducted a study on the self-efficacy and

academic achievement of students enrolled in Mathematics in the Modern

World Subject.

The study aimed to determine the self-efficacy, Academic Achievement, and

Mathematics in the Modern World Performance of students at Notre Dame of

Kidapawan College enrolled in Mathematics in the Modern World subject.

Especially, it aimed to answer the following questions: 1.) What is the

Academic Achievement of the respondents in Senior High School General

Mathematics? 2.) What is the academic background of the students in terms of
