Part Four: - Read the following four business questions or problems carefully and give
short and precise answer for the problems, or questions accordingly.
Use the blank page attached at the end of the question paper for your
answer (25 Pts).
1. Kidu Assefa and Yonatan Shimels are employed by Unity University, Adama Campus as
IS manager and System developers in the department of Computer Science. They have
been assigned and promised to develop better and cheaper systems and more rapid
deployment by having systems developers and end users work together jointly in real-
time to develop Student Payment System to monitor the day to day cash collection of the
university and to generate reliable, accurate and on-time reports. Select the modern
methodology that is suitable for this project and reason out for those methodologies you
suggest (JAD, RAD, Prototyping) (3 Pts).
2. Suppose you are the manager in one of the construction company in Ethiopia and the
company need to implant a new information system to manage and control the inventory
management of the company. The system is expected to manage and control each
material out from the store for construction and those remained in the store and generate
a report about the status. In order to perform an analysis of the current information
system a number of people are consulted. List down those group of people to consult and
helpful to analyze the current system (5 Pts).
3. Implementing new Information System for any kind of organization or company can
significantly affect the productivity and morale of employees specifically when the
company needs to change the existing system by a new technology that every employees
of the organization are not familiar. Suppose you are the manager of this company and
what steps might a company take to make this process as smooth and stress-free as
possible?( 5 Pts).
4. Read the following business domain carefully and answer the required questions
accordingly (7 points)
A company database needs to store information about employees (identified by ssn, with
salary and phone as attributes); departments (identified by dno, with dname and budget as
attributes); and children of employees (with name and age as attributes). Employees work
in departments; each department is managed by an employee; a child must be identified
uniquely by name when the parent (who is an employee; assume that only one parent
works for the company) is known. We are not interested in information about a child
once the parent leaves the company.
a) Identify those entities with its corresponding attributes
b) Draw Entity Relation Diagram (ERD)
5. Draw a Context Data Flow Diagram (DFD) for Human Resource Management of Unity
University, Adama campus (3 Pts).
6. Build an ER Diagram for the following for the following business information (7 points)
A student record management system will have the following two basic data object
categories with their own features or properties: Students will have an Id, Name, Dept,
Age, GPA and Course will have an Id, Name, Credit Hours. Whenever a student enroll in
a course in a specific Academic Year and Semester, the Student will have a grade for the
course
