 DCA and DCB form a linear pair
 DCA + DCB = 180  5x + 4x = 180
 9 x = 180  x = 20
DCA = 5x = 5  20 = 100
DCB = 4 x = 4  20 = 80

Lines AB and CD intersect at O.
AOC = BOD = 30 (vertically opposite angle)

Putting value of AOC in (i), we have
30 + BOE = 80
 BOE = 80 − 30 = 50
4. In the figure, lines XY and MN intersect at O. If POY = 90 and a = b, find c.

Sol: a=b
Let a = x then b = x
XOM + POM + POY = 180 (Angle on a straight line)
 x + x + 90 = 180
 2 x + 90 = 180  2 x = 90  x = 45
XOM = b = 45 and POM = a = 45
Now, XON = c = MOY (vertically opposite angle)
= POM + POY = 45 + 90
Hence, c = 135
5. Given that XYZ = 64 and XY is produced to point P. If ray YQ bisects ZYP, find reflex QYP.

Sol: XYP is a straight line
 XYZ + ZYQ + QYP = 180

 64 + ZYQ + QYP = 180 XYZ = 64

Sol: Let the angle be x
 its complement = 90 − x
And its supplement = 180 − x
According to question,
180 − x = 3 ( 90 − x )

 180 − x = 270 − 3x

 its complement = 90 − x
According to question,
( 90 − x ) − ( x ) = 18

Sol: Since OR and OS are in same line
ROP + POT + TOS = 180
 2b + 60 + b = 180  3b + 60 = 180

Since PQ and RS intersect at O.
QOS = POR (vertically opposite angles)

 a = 2b  a = 2  40 = 80 ( b = 40 )

Also, ROQ + QOS = 180 (Linear pair)


 3 c + a = 180
 3 c + 80 = 180 ( a = 80 )
 3 c = 100  c = 33.3
 a = 80, b = 40 and c = 33.3
