After I interviewed my father, I found out the history of our community which is the The
original inhabitants of Bagabag are the Gaddangs whose ancestors originally came from
Cagayan and Isabela provinces. The early Gaddangs wore their long, flowing hair, entirely
different from the male Ifugaos who bobbed their hair. The Gaddangs predominantly live in the
town proper and they speak the Gaddang language. Many Ilocanos and Tagalogs have migrated
and live in Bagabag. I also asked my father, why Bagabag is the name of our town and he said,
the term Bagabag came from the name of specie of a tree called “Bag-bag” in Gaddang term.
Mostly of the Gaddangs are settled along the Magat River where they had small farms of
vegetables and rootcrops. They had also ricefields. Most of them, however, depended on fishing
and hunting for their livelihood.
