Way of the Counterweight

Through intense study of the Arcane and Divine, members of an ancient monastery have found the
secrets of balancing the scales, of combating even the most powerful mages and returning their
strikes in full. Though already versatile fighters, these unarmed combatants have the abilities of
finding, ending and redirecting the unnatural forces around them.

Most such orders try to emulate the Crag Cat, and it can be often found depicted in their halls and
on their clothing, an animal that reflects not only their talents against magic, but the general grace
and strength of a natural warrior.

Know Your Enemy:

When you begin your journey on the Way of the Counterweight, you gain proficiency in the Arcana
Skill, if you don’t have it already, and may use Wisdom instead of Intelligence as the corresponding
ability modifier for both the roll and any passive scores.

Additionally, you may cast Detect magic at will, without requiring components or expending a spell
slot.

Disrupt the Flow:

Also starting at 3rd level, you know which paths magic takes in one’s body, and where the chakra
points and focal knots are. Whenever you hit a creature that has cast a spell since the beginning of
your last turn with an attack granted by Flurry of Blows, you may choose one of the two benefits:

 The creature has disadvantage on any spell attack rolls, and all saving throws imposed by
its spells are rolled with advantage, until the end of its next turn.
 You may end a single beneficial effect on the creature granted by a spell, as if having cast
Dispel Magic, using Wisdom as your spellcasting modifier.

Siphon Mana:
By 6th level, you have learned the secrets of harnessing the energy you snuff out or redirect.
Whenever you successfully end or prevent a magical effect, such as through the effects of
Counterspell, Dispel Magic or even simply disrupting a creature’s concentration, you gain a number
of temporary hit points equal to your Monk level plus your Wisdom modifier.

Additionally, you can cast Counterspell by spending 3 ki points, using Wisdom as your spellcasting
modifier, without expending a spell slot or requiring components. You can spend additional ki points
to cast Counterspell as a higher-level spell: each 2 additional ki points you spend increase the spell’s
level by 1.
Spellshroud:
Once you reach 11th level, you can’t be targeted or detected by any divination magic or perceived
through magical scrying sensors.

Direct the River:

At 17th level, you have learned to balance the scales in your favour, exerting complete control over
the flow of magic around you. When you would end or prevent a magical effect, you may instead
choose to become the caster, choosing new targets within range as appropriate. You do not need to
expend a spell slot or spend any spell components, though any other requirements must be met as
necessary (such as e.g. concentration).

Note: Though often referring specifically to spell-based casting, as opposed to innate magic and
magical effects, this Way’s talents have been known to work even against non-humanoid and
creatures magical in-and-of-themselves.
