Learning Targets
✓ I can read the sight words answer, dear,
letter, name, say, says, write, yes.
✓ I can read identify compound words and
the most common abbreviations (St., Rd,
Mr. Dr. Jan. etc.).
✓ I can distinguish main idea from details
and use that knowledge to find a theme in
non-fiction texts.
✓ I can identify the theme in a fiction story.
Ask me about Ron’s Big Mission. This
concluded our comprehension study on
theme.
✓ I can practice using these vocabulary
words: consequence, obey, inform,
spoil, considerate
✓ I can write a “how to” piece. Ask me
about the things I brainstormed that I
could teach others and how to make a
friend.
✓ I can solve word problems in math. We
talked a lot about when two things are
being compared or when we need to find
the difference, we subtract. Other times,
when we know the whole and only one
part, we need to add.
✓ I can investigate and items that are
insulators and items that are conductors.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Next week in literacy we will learn the sight
words air, earth, even, hear, here, morning, near,
round, sound, start. Our phonics focus will be
words with igh, ie, i_e. Our vocabulary words will be
reflect, conclusion, retell, disturb, fascinating.
In Math we will review word problems and
take our Topic 7 math test. We will also begin Topic
8 which teaches money and time.
In Writing we will continue writing “how to”
pieces. We are working on being specific in our
directions, short and sweet while also including
necessary details.
We will take a break from our science unit and
learn about Martin Luther King Jr.
No School Monday Jan. 17th in
honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
