Introduction:

Now a day IoT is the most trending concept in which Various machines or things interact with

environment. All the devices exchange information or data with the environment using sensors.

The information or data is gathered by the various devices from the surrounding environment

with the use of different latest technologies. After gathering the information or data then that data

will flow between the various devices. Therefore, Except the machine to machine

communication IoT provides advanced features to connect the devices, services and systems. IoT

covers various applications, protocols and domains (Farooq, Waseem, Mazhar, Khairi & Kamal,
2015). IoT provides the connection of various objects or devices such as electronic tablets, smart

watches, mobile phones, actuators and sensors to the internet. For this automation technology,

wireless systems are used such as cloud networks, Wi-Fi etc.

Impacts of IoT on Daily Life

IoT (Internet of Things) Is very interesting concept as it relates with the daily life. IoT is the

development of the internet. Due to IoT all the devices or objects connected to the network and

through which all devices exchange the data or information. The devices or objects such as TV,

Mobile phones, car, doorbell, bike all are connected to the internet through the concept of IoT.

Therefore, IoT impacts on your daily life all are discussed below:

 Remote control household: The main advantage of IoT concept is that it provides the

access of household appliances from anywhere. Likewise, if you are away from your

home but still you want to turn on the lights in home, to check the fridge items all that are

provided by the Internet of Things (IoT).

 Improved home security: IoT provides the various security techniques for home. To

keep the eye on the homes mainly Canary and Dropcam devices are used. These cameras

are very simple and smart cameras for the security purposes. One can keep the eye on

kids, pets or back door even when you are not at the home.
 Pollution and waste management: IoT (Internet of Things) is the most emerging

technology to manage or monitor the pollution and to reduce the waste with the use the

use of new methods.

 Health Monitoring: Based on the IoT technology there are various devices which helps

in monitor the overall wellness. Along with the various devices, there are number of

smartphone apps are also existing through which glucose level for diabetics and other

data related to the health can be monitored (Sharma & Tiwari, 2016).
 Household bills: IoT technology helps in reducing the household bills by some smart

devices such as smart thermostats, smart meters and various other heating systems which

monitor the energy which is consumed in the house.

Issues related to the IoT (Internet of Things):

 Security Issues: The various security issues are faced in the IoT technology. The

attackers can attack on the less secure IoT devices and the data from the IoT devices has

stolen by the attackers. The users need the trust that the IoT devices are secure from any

type of vulnerability which they are used (C & C.P, n.d.).

 Data Issues: The various IoT devices generates a huge amount of data. Due to this a

greater data, risk can be created. That risks are:

o Data Theft
o Device Manipulation
o IP theft
o Network manipulation
o Data manipulation
Communication Issues: In the IoT technology various communication protocols are

used to establish the connection between the various devices such as hubs, bridges or

gateways. In these devices, sometimes weak encryption occurs due to this

communication issues occurs. There are mainly two types of communication issues that

are:
o Heterogeneous protocol issue
o Dynamic characteristics

Home Network Architecture:

IoT (Internet of Things) Provide a platform to communicate with various non-living things with

an easy manner. In the architecture of the smart home network there is WAN network which has

the separate interface and a network switch to connect the whole LAN network. In the Smart

home network, sensors, embedded system and actuators are used to interact with the users.
Through these devices users can manipulate the data. For the communication between the

various IoT devices and end users then Internet protocols are used (Tiwari & Gedam, 2016). In

the architecture of IoT the various components are divided into the three functional units that are:

o Internet oriented
o Things oriented
o Semantic oriented

The examples and functions of various home appliances and smart home equipment are:

 Instead of doorbell a video door phones are used in smart homes. By this one can get the

picture of the person who is at the door.

 To track the exterior of the home cameras can be used.
 Instead of door keys, the doors of house can open with the use of four-digit code or

fingerprint sensor.
 To distribute the music from the stereo to any room smart audio systems can be used.
 Instead of the wall socket, table top lamp plugged into the dimmer.
 To get the information related to any person or pet or any kind of motion near the house

then motion sensors can be used.

Smart Devices

Smart Device Description

Smart Mobile Phones Now a day smart mobile phones becomes more popular and
becomes necessity of each person. Smart Mobile phone has
ability to download and run various multiple applications.
Smart mobile phones have various features like Digital Camera,
Gaming, GPS, Remote control of computers.
Smart Car Smart car is an automobile with some of advanced electronics
used in it. In the smart cars, Microprocessors are used to
increase the throughput of the engine. These smart cars have
various features like fuel saving tips, Integration with
smartphones.
Wearables Fitbit is the wearable device to track the physical activities.
Fitbit records the data of your various activities such as distance
traversed by you, number of steps, number of calories burned.
Fit bit also tracks the heartbeat of person during the exercise.
One can use the Fitbit to share the information with other apps.
Smart LED bulb Bulbs now a day are not just used to enhance lighting of the
room, but they are being smarter with the days too. Smart LED
bulbs are sensor based lighting equipment which sense your
presence and get lighted up, also in your absence they get off
(Husin, Ngahdiman, Hashim, Yusop & Ja’afar, 2013).
Automated vehicle parking In this automated parking system, At the gate of parking garage
system the vehicle will drive. Firstly, the parking ticket will draw by
the driver and then driver drives the vehicle and search the
space for parking. The automatics vehicle parking system can
be easily managed. The parking space will be searched by the
vehicle and then automatically parks in the correct space.
Smart Watch The new era watches that make sure that you need not pull out
the mobile phone next time when you need to do the basics
things like calling, music, messaging etc. easing the various
daily activities. And to add on that they look good on your wrist
hence adding to the beautification too. They make you look
smarter.
Smart TV (K, 2014) Smart TVs are the upgraded versions of the basic TVs. Forget
the old TVs when it was just the way to watch the serials etc.
and was called the ‘idiot box’. Now no more it’s an idiot box, as
it has become smarter. These are android based TVs where you
can browse internet, download and use various apps, also can
play games etc. From the hardware point of view, they include
HDMI, USB ports etc. making them even more smarter where
you can attach them with the computers, external memory
devices etc.
Smart Washing Machine Now a Day smart washing machines are most popular. By
using the mobile phone app one can set the washing machine.
Even when you are away from the home but still you can set
your washing machine using the internet. Even the one can
know through the app that when wash program will finish.
Water Detection Sensor Water Detection Sensors are the form of IoT (Internet of
Things). When water is detected then wireless sensor sends a
SMS text and email to prevent any damage to the property from
floods etc.
Smart Air Conditioner Smart air conditioner can be controlled from anywhere, any
time through the app e.g. geofencing is one activity that detect
location of the phone and automatically make the AC on and off
on the basis of location tracked.
