Instructions to the Examiner

1. Group students into groups of 5.

2. Instructions and guideline on project are to be given to students in Week 3 to

Week 4.

3. Students are advised to plan the fieldwork for their project during the Mid-
Semester break in order to give them sufficient time.

4. To present the project, a duration of 15 minutes is allocated for each group,

followed by 5 minutes of ‘question & answer’.

5. A copy of a data analysis report and slideshow must be submitted in a CD

during the presentation week together with all consent forms used in the
interview.

1. GUIDELINE FOR INTERVIEW SESSION

No. of Students will work in a group of five (5). Each student needs to take part in the interview
student process.
Each member of the group are required to interview 1 respondent:
Subject. They can be either native speakers of English or second language speakers of English
(including Malaysian)

Note: Students are allowed to interview international students as their respondents as long as
the latter is not from their own class. However, students are encouraged to go out to the real
world to seek for their respondents.
The interview should include the following items:
Content
1. Greeting & self-introduction
2. Respondent’s details
3. General questions – 7-10 WH Questions
4. An issue – 7-10 WH Questions
5. Closing

*For ethical reasons, Consent Form should be filled in by interviewees before the
interview session is conducted.
Duration 5 minutes for each respondent x 5 = 25 minutes.
Mode The interview must be video recorded. Make sure the voice in the recording is clear. The
video must be uploaded into the YouTube.

 Interview session from all 5 interviews (video: max 5 minutes)
 Summary on all 5 interviews; Focus on the issue. (comparison/contrast/similarity)
 Self-reflection (all 5 students) *It can be presented either in class or in written form*

Sahmimah: Assalamualaikum and hi my name is Nurul Sahmimah Binti Darmansah, I am
student University Malaysia Sabah. So today I would like to interview you for our final project
Oral Communication in English course about the Online Learning. Can I take some of you time
for finish our project?
Ayuni: Sure, no problem.
Sahmimah: I will ask the general questions first. What is your name?
Ayuni: Hi Sahmimah my name is Nur Ayuni Binti Masdan.
Sahmimah: how old are you?
Ayuni: I am 21 years old.
Sahmimah: where are you from?
Ayuni: I am from Lahad Datu, Sabah
Sahmimah: Are you good in English?
Ayuni: Not excellent but I can speak with English language and understand some words.
Sahmimah: Are you student or not?
Ayuni: Yes, I am student.
Sahmimah: Okay, lets continue to our real questions. The first question is what are advantages
online learning?
Ayuni: Advantage of online learning is reduced financial costs. This is because online learning
eliminates the cost of student transportation, student meals, and most importantly, shelter.
Sahmimah: Next questions, what are the disadvantages of online learning?

Ayuni: Students find it difficult to concentrate on screen for long periods of time. Online
learning provides a greater opportunity for students to be easily distracted by social media or
other websites. Because these actions will not be noticed by the lecturer.
Sahmimah: What was your experience when online learning?
Ayuni: My experience when learning online is there good experience which is, I feel comfort
because just need to stay at home. My bad experience is I ever had problem with internet
connection during my exam. So, this situation affects my performance in exam.
Sahmimah: Do you spend a lot of money during online learning?
Ayuni: I do not really spend a lot of money when learning online because I just need to stay at
home. So, I do not need to spend a lot of money for transportation go to the class, students’
meals, and accommodation fees. The money will be just used to pay for Internet quota so I can
join the class by online.
Sahmimah: Is online learning better than face to face learning?
Ayuni: In my opinion, I prefer face -to -face learning because it makes it easier for me to
communicate directly with the lecture if there is a subject that I do not understand. Learning by
face to face can give me more motivate to study with my friends.
Sahmimah: What type of platforms learning your teacher or lecture use when online learning?
Ayuni: Some of my teacher will use Webex, Google meet and Microsoft team.
Sahmimah: Does online learning provide the best quality compared face to face learning online?
Ayuni: For me no because I think face to face learning provide the best quality compared to
online learning. Face to face learning make students are easy to highlight their own abilities and
skills compare to online learning.
Sahmimah: Does online learning effect your result or grade?
Ayuni: Not too much but yes it can
Sahmimah: Why is online learning effect your grade?
Ayuni: Because Online learning makes it hard for me to understand subject more.
Sahmimah: Last question Ayuni. What are advantages or disadvantages online learning during lockdown?
Ayuni: Like I say at questions 1 and 2 if I not mistaken but I will repeat again advantages of online
learning is reduced financial costs and more flexible. Disadvantages of online learning is difficult
to concentrate on screen for long periods of time also impact health eye and problem with
internet connection.

SUMMARY

# My respondent Ayuni say advantages for Online Learning is reduced financial costs because
we do not need to worry about the transportation, student meals, and most importantly,
shelter. Disadvantages for Online Learning is Difficult to concentrate on screen for long
periods of time. Online learning provides a greater opportunity for students to be easily
distracted by social media or other websites. Because these actions will not be noticed by
the lecturer. Impact of health eye and internet connection also disadvantages Online
Learning.

# Online Learning also is best experience because we just stay at home and bad experience is
have problem connection to join the class. When we study Online do not have to spend a
lot of money for transportation go to the class, students’ meals, and accommodation fees.

# Prefer face to face class because it is easy to ask the teacher or lecture when we do not
understand about the topic and soon on and it will give us some motivate to study with
friends. Face to face learning the best quality because make students are easy to highlight

for Online Learning is Webex, Google Meet and Microsoft Team.

# Online Learning maybe no effect our grades, but it can be if the student does not understand
what has been learned.

NAME: NURUL SAHMIMAH BINTI DARMANSAH

After sir gave instructions related to the last project of the Oral Communication in English
course. My group members and I discussed topics and questions. And we chose the topic of
online learning because that is what we are experiencing right now. We also hold meetings
through Google Meet must and everyone must provide 2 related questions and agree to continue
our project.
# When I interviewed Ayuni, I realized that I was under -prepared and I intended to make the
interview a relaxing one so as not to get bored. My respondent was very friendly person her
made my interview session run smoothly.
# My group members and I chose to Online Learning because of what all students are
experiencing nowadays. And it has been a very hot issue for many reasons given when studying
from home. Although having to face many problems but there are also benefits when studying
online at home only.
# In conclusions, I learned a lot because of interviews related to Online Learning. We do not
have to give a lot of excuses when wanting excellent students to just work harder. We just need
support from friends and family to achieve success always follow the set rules that will benefit us
and the country. Do not be due to being instructed to study online we become students who fail
in lessons. Always think positive so that we are always calm.
