Internet Advertising
XYZ Company needs to focus advertising on internet sites that appeal to young people.
According to surveys, 72% of our target market uses the internet for five hours or more per
week. The following list shows in order of popularity the most frequented sites:

 Google
 Facebook
 Myspace
 EBay
 iTunes
Shifting our efforts from our other media sources such as radio and magazine to these popular
internet sites will more effectively promote our product sales. Young adults are spending
more and more time on the internet downloading music, communicating and researching for
homework and less and less time reading paper magazines and listening to the radio. As the
trend for cultural icons to go digital, so must our marketing plans.
TASK
 Your task is to read the following memo to analyse the audience and purpose.
 Write one-two sentences of analysis of the memo using the following questions.

1- Is this an example of horizontal, downward, or upward communication? Why do you


think so?
ANSWER:
It is an upward communication as the message is travelling from the subordinate to
the senior official.

2- Did the writer choose the best delivery channel for this message?

ANSWER:
Yes, he has chosen the best way for the advertisement as the world has become more
digital. People use electronic media such as internet instead of press media and radio
etc.

3- Is this a persuasive, negative, or positive message?

ANSWER:
Yes, It is a persuasive message. The assistant is persuading the executive officer to
shift to the medium of advertisement which is more effective

4- In your own words, describe the purpose of a memo in a business setting.
