Unit 1: Characteristics of Functions Date:
Transformations of Functions
L.G: | can identify important parent functions from an equation or graph and can desonbe or apply the effects of
transformations ofthese parent functions.
Review of Transformations
You can graph functions of the form
8(x) = af (K(x—h)) +e
by applying the appropriate transformations to the key points ofthe parent function y = f(x)
Itis important to apply the a and k (stretches, compressions, and reflections) before h and c (translations).
Remember the order is lke the order of operations (multiplication before addition/subtraction)!
Functions You Should Know
Graph each of the following. Use a table of values if you are unfamiliar with the base graph. Use transformations to obtain
the graph of the related function. State the domain and range.
