MONTESSORI EDUCATION
I feel close to this educational method because it tries to bring children to normality.
Although it was created more than we are behind, it is current because it pursues human values
and starts from simplicity. Nowadays children live in an overloaded environment, where
accentuated as much as they have, all gadgets and the toys they are surrounded by do nothing but
overstate them. The Montessori method cames as a solution, being in fact a daily philosophy, a
way to understand the child and to accompany him.
In kindergartens, children have the opportunity to learn themselves, depending on age and
skills. And we are talking about essential activities: To know how to take a tray alone, to wash its
vessels, to get autonomy on dressed and undressed, to pour water with caraffas, clean up their
own dirt, etc. All this activities at the beginning of the journey, prepare the child and place order
in his mind. Another reason why I feel attracted to this teaching is that in a classroom there are
1
children of different ages, from 3 to 6 and that each one develops at its pace. Children understand
and accept the pace of development of others, and that creates them a set of inner values.
Maria Montessori was born in 1870 in Italy. At the age of 26 he became one of the first female
health graduates in Italy. Her work started in a a psychiatry clinic, working with children
considered retarded.
The thirst of knowledge and passion for children made her study the behavior of the child and
look at them from a pedagogical point of view as well. This is how a long road of research and
practice begins, which will lead to the development of an educational method spread throughout
the world. This method places the child in the center and the teacher has the place of a guide, so
that the child is given the freedom to stand alone, to make choises and to develop according to
his own needs.
But it is very important to note that under conditions of freedom the correct is the process of
internal discipline.
The method involves, first and foremost, a highly trained environment and the child's
experimental interaction with it. Maria M. created materials for every area in the environment:
Sensorial, language, mathematics, practical life, science. Each material is designed to develop
certain functions of the coopal: Concentration, fine motricity, coarse motricity, preparation of the
writing hand, improvement of dexterity, self-determination, development of senses, etc. it insists
on the absorbing mind of the child in the small childhood, each material being created so as to
2
include control of error. The goal is to build the functional independence of the child – “help me
do it alone”.
The educator often becomes an observer and allows the child to succeed without his help. Thus,
the child learns by experimenting with the environment and with his or her own abilities. In all
Montessori Kindergartens in the world there are the same materials, same rules and the same
desire: to adduce children in normality and to bring them into contact with themselves and with
their own abilities. They learn to protect each other's concentration, learn respect and
patience. The order in the environment on the shelves creates inner order. Older children help the
young when they need it, so human values form their roots.
Every material hides important psychological processes and leads the child to the next stage that
suits him. I give an example of a sensorial material whose direct purpose is to form the hand to
support the correctum pen, bun not only. This is called the cylinder block.
Each area is structured and designed in such a way that it leads th child to a logical learning
process.

There is a representation of concepts that can be palpable. For example geometric shapes:
Thus the child can see, feel, know many of the conceptual processes.
All materials are closely interwoven, and each is the forerunner of another material.Freedom of
movement is a very important and beneficial point for children development. In the Montessori
environment, it can move freely, can glee on the table or in the mat. Also, teamwork in maths or
language opens up to children social knowledge and collaboration.
There are just a few examples in a class. The work that Dr. Montessori has done in 60 years is
unique, based on many research and experiments, giving the child a special privilege: That he is
a mystery of creation that we should let him discover himself! She always gave the children the
feeling that they are developing in a family, which is why she called the kindergarten Casa dei
Bambini.
The purpose of this method is to help the child develop in such a way as to become an adult
reconciled with himself or the others, aware of his or her membership and contribution to
humanity as a whole.
