Dear Mrs. Mai,

Now, I am writing to thank you for all of the precious things you had done to me. Do you
remember the foreigner volunteers who made a trip to a remote area in Viet Nam? That was me
and my friends. Today is Sunday so I have a lot of time to correspond with you. How is your
family these days? Are your husband and your sons doing well? I am very grateful for your
hospitability and kindness to us. Although we are nobody but strangers, you treated us well with
good local dishes and provided us with comfortable accommodation. You also taught us about
Vietnamese table manner as well as its remarkable historical tales about the heroes with
courageous and benevolent heart. You also gave me medicines and advices to prevent tropical
diseases. It’s only a month but you make me felt like at home. I hope that you will have a year
full of happiness and prosperity.

Part 4/ Most education system rely on examinations to encourage children to study, but as a
result children suffer from too much stress and they never learn to be creative. What do you think
about this problem? Write a passage about 180 words to justify your answer (2ms)

Examinations is one of the most effective and traditional measures to evaluate the children’s
academic ability and their studying progress. However, children are suffering from mental
disorder and great depression before and after every exam and their creativity is seriously
affected. In my opinion, exam is vital to promote education and make the future generations
competent enough to take responsibility for hard work.

Firstly, stressful and difficult as exams might seem, students with adequate revision and learning
can do it well without worrying much about it. Unlike lazy students, the industrious ones prepare
for the exam beforehand regularly so they can do well about it. It is clear that examinations are
the initial steps of learning how to prepare for and cope with pressure and hard work in the
future. Secondly, examinations create a competitive environment for students. Competitiveness
can inspire students to do their best to improve themselves and become better than others. This is
the decisive factor which lead to many important breakthroughs ỉn science, mathematics or space
industry. Examination system is also the best way to identify a student’s weakness and strength,
therefore teachers can teach them accordingly. Last but not least, education system is gradually
changing for better. Examinations still remain there, but the method has changed recently not
only to reduce anxiety about exam but also to promote creativity among students.

All in all, I disagree with the statement above and I believe that examination is the best way to
qualify students and encourage the development of our modern society.
