HOW I BALANCE MY LANGUAGE LEARNING

Balance in learning is the most important factor during a foreign language curriculum. But how can we
make it happen beside the learning purposes, hobbies or committed duty? If you still have stuck in the
balance scale so with this essay below I will so you how I’ve controlled my balance my study progress.
Before we start, you have to know about four aspects when learning a foreign language. It includes:
1. Learning from meaning-focused input (reading and listening)
2. Learning from meaning-focused output (speaking and writing)
3. Language-focused learning (studying pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, etc...)
4. Fluency development (getting good at using what you already know)
Firstly, with the listening input method, I have chosen the right content and appropriate for me such like
TED talks, comedy movies, or some scientific programs and so on. To improve what I have listened with
reading, I started to read some English novel such as Harry Potter, The man and the sea – Ernest
Hemingway or Moby Dick -Herman Melville. Sometimes, to change my interests, I try to read some
article about the social problems, the COVID epidemic information.
Secondly, with the output methods, we have some different way to practice which is have some argument
with friend, your tutor, teacher. There are many ways to make your speaking skill better, you can try to
communicate with some foreigner through some international game like Among us, League of Legends or
maybe Fortnite, etc... What I have done to make my writing better was practiced to write a topic and try
to write as long and fast as I can with all the content that made reader could understand what I want to
interpret in the essay. I think not these ways not only effective but they also are the best cure for anyone
want to improve themselves’ writing skill.
And thirdly, one more important factor that decide which level you are is the language-focused learn
about your accent, vocabulary, grammar, etc... Not every foreign language learner has a good start and
ability to access the source of knowledge properly. An example, me, I have move to HCM city with my
parents since I was a 6 and my family is not really wealthy as my some local neibourgh. That distant
between that condition was a fence that keep me off good study condition, but now I have many chances
to approach it. Now I realize that make one person more native is change their accent and how they the
express there story correctly. Cause their accent was influenced by the mother-tongue language, that why
there are some variants in some country. On my study side, I take practice with some common dialogue
or some useful phrase for some special situation: meeting, working or party, etc...
Finally, the last one, fluency development is the most thing to develop a second language become a part
of your you. We can improve our fluency and accent through communicate with your teachers, friends, it
could be anyone around you who willing to talk with you without hesitation, in fact that simple thing can
really help you be come more confident and make your mind think logically. One more thing about this
aspect that you have to pay your time and effort to make this factor becoming fancy as the native. Here
are some ways to make your fluency better: Look how the native speech rhythm like; How they spell
while they speaking to there company; Practice to emphasize the main content you want to say in the talk.
Overall, this’s how I learn and my experience through my teacher in chart: Mrs. Dang Hoang Mai M.A.
