ABSTRAC

A bridge is a special work of art required to cross a geographical feature or an artificial obstacle through which
traffic in the direction of its axis is not possible (Bridge Design Manual - Ministry of Transport and
Communications [MTC], 2003). This is how the Riecito Bridge can be defined, which is a work of art that is
part of the local road from Boquerón de Núñez in Bellavista to Chilaco in Lancones.

In the Study of Concrete Structures, Works of Art and Drainage that was part of the Technical File of the
Project “Improvement of the Neighborhood Highway from Boquerón de Núñez in Bellavista to Chilaco in
Lancones; Sullana District, Sullana Province, Piura Department ”, an inspection was carried out on this work
of art present in the route of the road, in which it was concluded that it did not comply with the necessary
functionality and structural capacity. Due to the aforementioned situation, the construction of the new Riecito
Bridge was determined, which has been executed according to the project's estimated work schedule from
the last two months of 2016 to the first two months of 2018.

The analysis, design and construction process of the Riecito Bridge was carried out following the guidelines
indicated in the Bridge Design Manual of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. In Chapter 2 of the
aforementioned manual, a brief description of the construction provisions that must be taken into account
when executing the superstructure of a vehicular bridge is made, depending on its constituent material,
concrete and steel being the predominant materials for this. type of structures. However, this manual does not
present a technical and economic criteria to adequately determine the class of structural systems of bridge
superstructures. However, there is a bibliography, such as the book "Puente con AASHTO LRFD 2014" by
Engineer Arturo Rodríguez Serquén, where reference is made to the type of superstructures that can be used
according to their constituent material and the free span between supports; But despite this, the evaluation
and choice of the type of structure to be used in the project is left to the discretion and experience of the
engineer responsible for the project.

Due to the problems described above, this research project arises from the need to carry out a comparative

technical and economic analysis between a new structural proposal, which consists of conceiving the

superstructure of the Riecito Bridge as a structural steel truss bridge, and the superstructure of the Riecito

Bridge determined in the Technical Work File; and in this way to be able to determine, with scientific bases,

the technical and economic criteria for the choice of material and the structural system in similar types of

bridges, obtaining an optimization of the economic resources of the state, as well as a reduction in

construction time, which translates into a more immediate commissioning for the population involved.
