Dear Student,
I am delighted to inform that you have been provisionally selected for consideration of the KVPY Fellowship
Award – 2020 (w.e.f. 1st August 2021) based on your performance in the Aptitude Test held on 31st January 2021 under
the stream SX (subject to the eligibility criterion of the award).
You will be eligible for payment of fellowship if you have secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks
in aggregate in SCIENCE Subjects in the12th standard Board Examination during the academic year 2020 -21 and
joined for an undergraduate course during the academic year 2021-22 in basic sciences (BSc/BS/B.Math/B.Stat/BS-
MS/Integrated MSc/Integrated MS) i.e. in Biology, Chemistry, Physics,, Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry,
Microbiology, Cell Biology, Ecology, Molecular Biology, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Biotechnology,
Neurosciences, Bioinformatics, Marine Biology, Geology, Human Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences,
Applied Physics, Geophysics, Materials Science or Environmental Science.
You are, therefore, required to fill in the enclosed student data form and proforma for bank account details and return
them to KVPY office. In addition to the above, certificates from the Dean or Head of the institution, where you are
studying, indicating your course of study and non-receipt of fellowship/ scholarship/contingency from any other source
should also be sent along with the copies of attested mark statements of 12 th standard/II PUC and other enclosures for
verification.
You are also required to send 6 copies of your recent photos (1 passport size and 5 stamp size) along with the forms for
issue of Identity Card.
These documents may be returned to KVPY office duly filled in by registered/speed post/courier to reach KVPY office
on or before 30th October 2021. A formal Fellowship Award letter will be issued after receipt of the above documents.

Please note that the fellowship/contingency grant will be paid only through transfer to your bank account, hence it is
mandatory to open an SB account preferably in State Bank of India (SBI) or any Nationalised Bank. The Payment
of fellowship/contingency grant by cheque/DD is not permissible.

Note: As the KVPY fellowship is released without any further reference directly to the student,
changes if any should be intimated to the Convener, KVPY, Indian Institute of Science,
Bangalore – 560 012 immediately for cessation of the Fellowship.
KVPY Fellowship amount will be paid through Electronic Clearing System (ECS) on State
Bank of India (IISc Branch, Bangalore – 560 012). Hence, you are requested to open a bank
account in any branch of State Bank of India
To ensure hassle free transaction, it is advised to open a bank account in STATE BANK OF
INDIA only.
Some of the awardees may be studying in remote rural areas where banking facility does not
exist. Such awardees are requested to look for any branch of State Bank of India and its
associated banks in nearby town/city and open an account as mentioned above. They
should write the name of city and bank code in the claim bill so that draft can be issued on
the same branch of SBI/Associated Bank.

1. Eligibility: The KVPY fellow provisionally selected under the Stream SX provided they have secured a minimum of
60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in SCIENCE Subjects in the 12th standard Board Examination and
enrolled in first year UG programme in Basic Sciences (B.Sc./B.S./B.Math/B.Stat./Integrated M.Sc./Integrated M.S.) i.e.
in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Ecology, Molecular
Biology, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Biotechnology, Neurosciences, Bioinformatics, Marine Biology, Geology, Human
Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Physics or Geophysics, materials Science or Environmental Science
during the academic year 2021 - 22.
2. Fellowship: The KVPY fellows are eligible to receive Fellowship amount of Rs. 5000/- per month and a contingency
grant of Rs. 20000/- per year from 1 st August 2021. The Fellowship amount will be paid once in every quarter on
production of study certificate: one at the time of the award and the other during the first week of January each year.
3. Contingency grant: The contingency grant is meant for meeting the expenses towards purchase of books relevant for
the study, photocopying expenses, travel for attending summer programmes under KVPY, travel and living expenses for
visits which the Fellow wishes to undertake to National Institutions, etc. It will be paid in four equal installments along
with the Fellowship amount for every quarter (August – October 2021, November 2021 – January 2022, February – April
2022 and May – July 2022).
4. Termination of the award: The fellowship and contingency grant will not be paid to students who opt out of Basic
Science courses as mentioned above at any stage.
5. Renewal of the fellowship: The yearly renewal of the fellowship for subsequent years up to pre-Ph.D level will depend
on the following conditions.
a. The Fellow continues to study Basic Science courses in school/junior college/university and maintains a
minimum level of academic performance of first class or 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate
or equivalent grade points and the students must necessarily pass all the subjects prescribed for that
particular academic year (two semesters in case of semester system) and should have obtained the above
specified percentage of marks. During the course study the marks / grades secured will have to be certified
by the Dean or Head of the Institution in each academic year. The fellowship will be discontinued if the
above marks/grade is not maintained. However, if the fellow passes all the subjects and maintain greater
than 60% ((50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in the subsequent years, the fellowship will be renewed only from
that year onwards again with the condition that the fellow should maintain 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD)
marks in aggregate every year. The student is eligible to receive the KVPY fellowship up to a period of
five years or Pre-PhD level whichever is earlier.
b. Participation and satisfactory performance in the summer program/project each year from the second year
(B.Sc./B.S./B.Math./B.Stat /Integrated M.Sc./Integrated M.S.) onwards in an academic Institution of
National or International repute or a DSIR approved research labs (in case of private lab or institutions) is
mandatory for renewal of the Fellowship. The report on the summer program /project together with the
assessment report from the mentor will have to be forwarded along with the course performance certificate
etc. for renewal purpose.
6. Fellowship from more than one source: As per the guidelines, the Fellow is not expected to receive simultaneously
fellowship/scholarship from more than one source, either Government or Private. If the Fellow has more than one
option, he/she may choose whichever is beneficial to him/her.
7. Legal matter: Any legal proceedings in respect of any matter of claim or dispute arising out of this award can be
instituted only in Bangalore and courts/tribunals/forums at Bangalore shall have the sole and exclusive jurisdiction to
try any case/dispute.
