Burt’s Bees

Question #1

Who is Roxanne Quimby and how did she start and grow Burt’s Bees?

Roxanne Quimby is the president and originator of Burt's Bees. Burt's Bees' prosperity

was because of the progressions it made in its product offering in the two years following its

1994 move from Maine to North Carolina. Since the organization had invested vigorously in

cosmetic fabricating machines, and the assembling for healthy skin items were fairly basic, it

supplanted a considerable lot of its customary items with healthy skin items.

Question #2

Should Burt’s Bees have remained a producer and direct marketer?

Burt’s bee should become a retailer as it will further enable them to reach the revue goal.

Becoming a producer and controlling the entire chain of distribution will enable Burt’s Bees to

offer products at a much lower sales prices than the current retailers since there are no longer any

intermediaries adding profit on the sales cost. Along with the loss of revenue producers lose

control over the image and brand communicated to the final customers. Lastly the significance

given to a producer’s item by the people from the distribution channel isn't under the

manufacturers control, this cause products to their sense of urgency and importance. Although

Burt’s Bees stay a producer will provide lots of short term advantages like cost saving, time

saving, I believe that taking over the entire chain will be more beneficial to the company in the

long run.
