Chapter I

The Problem and It’s Background

Introduction

The researchers want to find out the different Hindrances that affect the Performance of

High school students. High school students may be reluctant or refuse to go to school, maybe

because of the some common problems that affect the high school students in attending the

school, some of this are underlying learning, difficulties or learning disabilities or also maybe the

behavior or emotional issues. Yet there are many reasons why a high school student might not be

engaging fully in their education. Other factors may also include: disliking, or not feeling

connected to the school culture or environment some students who are not have much friends,

disliking school subjects they didn’t learn it much, not liking the choice of subjects maybe

because of the difficulties of it, or not feeling challenge by the work they feel that it’s not more

challenging . It may also include lack of support by their parents because of the family problems,

not getting along with teacher or other students at school maybe they’re afraid to other people,

and cultural acknowledgement and understanding they not easily adapt the environment in the

other places. Parents should identify the cause of why their child refuses to go to school, also the

vices of the student or their behavior in school, using gadgets can also affect the students

hindrances in attending the school that can also affect their grades to become lower. However, it

is normal that in some stage in life every individual faces difficult situation. But in the end

children or students must finish their studies even though its hard its always part of our daily life.
Statement of the Problem

This research aims to determine the ” Hindrances that affect the Performance of High

school students” specifically it seeks to answer the following questions:

1. How may the hindrances affect high school students in attending the school be described in

terms of:

1.1 Cutting classes

1.2 Gadgets

1.3 Vices

1.4 Low grades

Scope and Delimitation

This study involves selected High School Students in Holy Cross College in the year

2017-2018. The researchers prefer these students in order to know the different hindrances that

affect the performance of the high school students. The main purpose of this is to know the

different hindrances that affects the performance of high school students.

Significance of the Study

The result of this may give an idea for those high school students who were of having

hindrances that affect the performance in school, and give an idea about the reason why they

attempt to that. This study will help to know about who are the high school students that possibly

by these factors . This study will be beneficial to the following:

Review of Related Literature

This studies conduct by several researchers, it includes the local literature, foreign

literature and lastly is the significance of the literature. The researchers reviewed the following

article related in this topic.

Local literature

According to Elmer (1989), sounds making is a need to prevent any misfits and to assist

students in the process of solidifying the attitude of the students.

According to Siguan Jr. (1994), was also found significant on the behavior of the students

and development.

According to Adoyele & Adeebiyi (2003), implying that stills cuts classes and carrying

out activities in the school while inefficient study habits leads to academic failure.

According to Marquez (2009), also suggested that the students would not try to study all

the subjects because of the bad attitude of the students.

According to Sonsana ( 2012), there upon, structure of individual would be greatly

influenced of other student in the school.

According to Mendoza (1994), mendoza’s theory places emphasis on the accuracy

knowledge of the students and decision making.

Foreign literature

According to Taylor (2000), most of the students lack of adequate regarding various

subjects.

According to MC Querrey (2006), have influence of others student of using gadgets that

causes of low grades.

According to Mc Quaid and Bond (2003), one consistent findings in research suggest that

students own aspiration are influenced by their other students aspiration or expectations .

According to Pommel, Harwood and Lavallee (2008), report that the external influenced

by significant though the influences of the students in the school.

According to Takbir Ali (May 16, 2012), the main handled lies in students in ability to

demonstrate a attitude of the students learning appeared to be an uphill task for the teacher.

According to Barley, Robert Kenneth (1997), in our senior high school most planning is

done by school teacher and administrators without consideration for the students because of

vices and low grades.

Significance of Related Literature

This study helps the students to become aware of different barriers that affect to their

studies as well as to their lives, it also help them to overcome it and make a choice or decision

regards of different situations.

Research Methodology

This chapter presents the Research Methods, Research Design, Respondents of the Study,

Sampling Design, Research Locate, Research Instrument, Data Gathering Procedure, and Data

Analysis.

Research Methods

The research will use the qualitative research to be more specified the answer to the

problem. Qualitative Research is using words rather than numbers to show the results and the

inquiry/investigation about the people about thoughts, beliefs, views, and life styles about the

object of the study.

Research Design

The researchers will use descriptive research that aims at defining or giving a verbal

portrayal of a person, thing, event, and situation. To describe what is the flow of the problem.

Sampling Design

The researchers will use non probability sampling specially purposive sampling.

Purposive sampling is a technique in which researcher judgment is based on his/her own.

Research Locate

This study will conduct in Senior High School in Holy Cross College. Santa Rosa, Nueva

Ecija.
Research Instrument

The researchers will use questionnaire as the instrument of gathering data. Based on the

results/answers the conclusion and solution created.

Data Gathering Procedure

The data gathering procedure will be through questionnaire. The researchers will make a

set of questions to ask to the respondents. Look for the respondents and approach them to

conduct an interview. Give the questionnaire to start answering and discuss the questions one by

one. After answering give thanks to the respondents as a sign of respect that they have contribute

to the research.

Data Analysis

The data will be analyze through comparing and reading the answer of the respondents in

this way the researchers was able to interpret and examine the answer of the respondents.

Chapter IV

Presentation and Discussion of Data

This chapter presents the data gathering by the researcher in textual form. Likewise,

interpretation follows under data presentation to answer the questions stated in chapter I.

I. Profile of the respondents

The age of the respondents are 16 to 20, 1 female and 3 males from 11- HUMSS.

II. Determining the Common problem cutting classes, gadgets, vices, and low grades.

2.1 Cutting Classes

Students who were observed in this study stated that they still often cut classes even

though they have failing grades, and yet they are more prefer to encourage fellow students to not

attend the class because of their fun activities inside or outside the school.

According to David Cannadine (1992), investigated in three independent but related

studies to determine effects on grades due to cutting classes and failing to take advantage of

optional reviews and studies.

2.2 Gadgets

Gadgets is one of the reason why students can’t focus to their study because they keep

using them even theirs a teacher discussing or teaching. So that some students that we observed

are more addicted on it.

According to Oxford (1886), percent among who don’t use gadgets at all. This lack of

sleep also, affects school performance.

2.3 Vices

Most of our respondents have vices that they usually do when the teacher is out or go to

some areas that few students and hard to find.

According to Sikhism (1995), practice, behavior generally considered criminal, addiction

degrading in the association society. In more minor usage and you probably know that you

should avoiding smoking seemingly harmless vices can be ruining your health.

2.4 Low Grades

The respondents in this study stated that even though they have a poor quality of grade

they still not let it go in the lower part, because of their parents that expecting more from them.

Though they still cut classes, playing gadgets, have vices yet, they still aware of their grades.

According to Baoshi chen (1994), being near that extreme of a specified range which is

lowest, least intense, least competent a low grade.

Chapter V

Summary, Conclusion, and Recommendation

This chapter deals about the summary, conclusion and recommendation offered from the

findings.

This study determine the hindrances that affects the performance of high school students.

It describes the problem specifically in terms of cutting classes, gadgets, low grades and vices.

The researchers gather the data through observation in forms of questionnaire by

performing the availability sampling as the probability sampling.

The findings of the study shows the hindrances that affects the performances of high

school students which give them problems, how they faces that performances and deal with it.

Conclusion

Based on the research of the study the following conclusion were drawn in terms of

cutting classes – where in the students leave the class and don’t want to go to school and just go

somewhere else. Gadgets – where they focuses more instead of doing their home works, projects,

activities and task that the teachers give to them. Low grades – where they don’t mind it and just

do what they want to. Vices – keeping it, and did not aware of the surroundings also they kept

not to attend in the class because of it.

Recommendations

Base on the result and conclusion the researchers recommend the following:

Students who kept doing cutting classes, must stop doing that because it can also cause

low grades and when you have low grade you are going to face another problem again.

We know that gadgets can also create good and bad uses. But if you know that you are

not gaining any good things by using gadgets you must stop it until you can.

Vices can’t get any good things in you, it will only ruin your health and it will also

shorten your life.

Do all the things you can do to get a good grades, because if you have good grades you

can pursue all the dreams that you want

Before you do all those problems think first of your parents that spending their life in

their job for you to go to school everyday. Teachers should report those problems in the guidance

counselor in school, so that they can put an action on it
