Before answering the question-paper candidates

should ensure that they have been supplied to correct
and complete question-paper. No complaint, in this
regard, will be entertained after the examination.

Note : Attempt Four questions in all. All questions

carry equal marks.

(3)M-C514 1
1. (a) Define rank of matrix. Find rank of
3 1 2 4

2 1
(c) Evalaute 2 cos 2x.
(d) Two equal forces forming a couple are
of magnitude 24 N each and the arm of
the couple is 12 m. Find the magnitude
of each force of an equivalent couple
whose arm is 8 m.
(e) Find the direction in which a particle be
projected to pass through a given
point.

2. (a) Using Gauss-Jordan method to find the

inverse of the matrix.

8 4 3

(b) Find rank of the matrix  6 2 4 
 3 1 2 
by reducing it in its normal form.

3. (a) Verify Cayley-Hamilton theorem for the

matrix.

 1 1 2 

(b) Solve the system of equations :

2x1 + x2 + 2x3 + x4 = 6
6x1 – 6x2 + 6x3 + 12x4 = 36
4x1 + 3x2 + 3x3 – 3x4 = – 1
2x1 + 2x2 – x3 + 4x4 = 10

4. (a) From the following table, estimate the

number of students who obtained marks
between 40 and 45.
