INTRODUCTION

Background of the study

Base on our research, Covid-19 caused by novel coronavirus has radically

transformed the lives of masses people around the globe, including students indeed, as of April

1, 2020. The number of learners required to stay at home due to the closure of their educational

institution at all grade levels reached a peak of 1.598 billion from 194 countries (UNESCO,

2020). Covid-19 has changed the lifestyle of people around the world. People are advised to keep

their distance and limit travel as often as well. That’s why nowadays, students are using some

kind of gadgets in order to participate a virtual class.

As a student, we, the researchers, experienced a lot of struggles, problems and

circumstances during pandemic. Changing of lifestyle and socializing experienced pandemic

arise. I’ve missed my teachers and classmates the way we communicate in classroom. Now in

the middle of pandemic, everything has

changed. And that is why everyone are still adjusting their life situation not only students but

everyone. Online learning was first introduced in the 1990s with the creation of the internet and

utilize in distance learning. Online learning also (called e - learning) is most prevalent in higher

education, enabling students from different areas to engage with an academic institution and

other students online and learn flexibility at their own pace, while working towards a degree or
certificate. Online learning is education that takes place over the internet. It refers to an internet

- based learning environment that connects students of diverse backgrounds who boast

different perspectives. In school of ACLC College of Mandaue, there are some ways of online

learning that includes full online, digital modular which uses some apps like google classroom or

link where we can submit our outputs, and google meet where we can have a virtual class that

lead by our subject teachers and hard mode, which is the printed modules where teachers

distribute some hard copy to answers by the students.

The general objectives of this study are to know the effect of online learning to the

academic performance of ABM students in school of ACLC and what’s the reason why we use

online learning instead of face-to-face session.
