Sir,
Subject: Pupil Chummun Chesta – Grade 4, Nouvelle Découverte G.S

Called at school on Tuesday 19th September 2017 to have a counselling session with Mrs.
K. Chummun, the mother of above – named pupil who is currently working as a class teacher at
N. Découverte G.S. A working session was also conducted with minor.
2. Eventually, during the counselling session, Mrs. Chummun reported that her ward has
been a victim of perpetual harassment by her class teacher in the name of Mr. Nemchand. She
further added to have complained with the Headmistress and Assistant Headmasters but she is
not satisfied with the way the matter was dealt at managerial level. Please note that the parents
of pupil Chesta had already complained at the Child Development Unit (CDU) and to the Police
Station of St. Pierre where a Precautionary Measure (PM) has been registered.
3. Moreover, she alleged that Mr, Nemchand used corporal punishment on different
occasions on her ward and also on other pupils in the grade 5 section.
4. She also affirmed that her ward suffered from constipation due to accumulated stress that
she is having to endure since the first term. She mentioned that her daughter lost appetite and is
having a disturbed sleeping pattern.
5. Indeed, a working session was effected with pupil. The latter participated actively. She
alleged that her class teacher used corporal punishment on her on several instances which
comprises: pulling her hair, slapping on her back or being beated by a ruler on her hand.
6. Child even stated that her class teacher humiliated her in front of her peers and hence, she
has no friends as the class teacher brainwashed everyone. She depicted how her class teacher
called her by names: “couyon and imbécile”. She revealed to be embarrassed in her classroom.
7. From observations made pupil seems to be opened up. She appears to be unhappy and
claimed to hate her school.
8. Therefore, a working session was also conducted with the Headmistress, informing her to
closely monitor child. In addition, she was advised to have a discussion with the class teacher to
see to it that child has some friends to play with and to create a conducive environment for child.
9. The headmistress informed that she had already taken several actions to help child to
integrate in the classroom and with her friends. Furthermore, she told to have recorded all the
actions taken in a book.
10. It would be grateful, if the school inspector could investigate into the matter as it appears
that there have been different conflicts between Mrs. Chummun and Mr. Nemchand.
11. Pupil would be followed by Educational Psychologist on a regular basis during the third
term.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs V. Jumungall – Sookun,

Educational Psychologist
