INTRODUCTION
The operating system is the most important system software for every
computer. OS is one or more programs that manage CPU operations, control
input/output and storage resources and computer activities as well as various
support services such as memory management, disk space and others. The
operating system or operating system (OS) is a set of programs which is
installed in the hard disk. Without an OS, a computer cannot operate properly.
The OS is very important to a computer. OS handles everything from your
keyboard and mouse to Wi-Fi radios, storage devices, and displays. Operating
systems use device drivers written by hardware makers to communicate with
their devices. Without a functioning operating system our computer would be
useless.

The operating system lies between the applications we run and the
hardware, using hardware drivers as an intermediary of the two. For example,
when an application wants to print something, it assigns that task to the
operating system. The operating system sends commands to the printer, using
the printer driver to send the correct signal. Printed applications don’t have to
care to understand how it works. The OS handles the details.

Popular desktop operating systems include Microsoft Windows, Apple

macOS, Google's Chrome OS, and Linux. The dominant smartphone operating
systems are Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android. The main purpose for the
operation of this system is to make the computer system can operate more
efficiently and well. In addition, it is to launch and simplify the computer
operating system to users.

FUNCTIONS OPERATING SYSTEM

Operating systems have their own functions. Among its functions are
Turning on and off the active OS computer as soon as the computer is
activated and needs to be shut down with a shutdown command. In addition, it
also controls storage, schedule tasks, provide security, and monitor
performance

Next, it also Provides a User Interface. The Operating System allows users
to use the computer system according to the user's wishes. Users can also enter
data and instructions as well as retrieve information from the computer. User
interface is all the aspects related to communication interaction between user
and computer especially in software chapter. All aspects that appear on a
computer screen, can be viewed, read, understood, and manipulated with a
keyboard and mouse are part of the user interface. It is called a command line
interface (CLI). Recently, many operating systems now use a graphical user
interface (GUI). IU is a visual display to attract the attention of users. IU also
has interesting and different colors, writing forms.

In conclusion, the last function is run application. An example is

multitasking. Multitasking refers to the simultaneous performance of various
tasks and processes by computing hardware, software, or appliances. It allows
the performance of more than one computer process at the same time in the
overall performance and without affecting the operation of each task.
Multitasking is also known as multiprocessing. For example, we use Word and
Excel simultaneously. The application we are using is called running in the
forehead while the application we are not using is called running in the
background.

FEATURES
Starting or restarting is computer is called booting the system. Features are
the user tools in the computer for the convenience of the user. There are two
ways to boot the computer, namely cold boot, and warm boot. Warm boot
works when the computer is already turned on without power. For cold boot, it
works when starting a computer that has been turned off. Next, these are

among the features found in my computer he first is icons. Icons are graphical
representations for a program, type of file, or function. the second is Pointer. It
is controlled using a mouse, trackpad, or touch screen. Next windows and tabs.
windows are a rectangular area for displaying information and running
programs. Tabs are used to divide menus into major activity areas such as
format and page layout. Menus are for a list of options or commands that can
be selected. In addition, dialog boxes provide information or request input. For
example, it provides notifications such as error and cancel.

DESKTOP OPERATING SYSTEM

Windows is a type of software that controls a computer system. It is
categorized as operating system software because its function is to control a
computer machine. Microsoft Windows or better known as Windows, is one
of the most popular operating systems today. Windows has many versions,
namely windows 7, windows 10, and the latest is windows 11. I use windows
10 on my computer. There are several products in the Windows "family",
besides the Windows Live operating system, which includes Messenger (chat),
Windows Defender, which is a program to protect against spyware and other
unwanted software, and Windows Media Player, which is software for
listening music and perform other functions.

SYSTEM UTILITIES
Utility software refers to support or assistance software that serves to help
ensure the smooth running of computer hardware, operating systems, and
application software. Utility software has long been integrated with most
major operating systems. Among one of the utility systems available in my
laptop is antivirus. this software works to scan, repel, and protect computer
data from virus attacks. Acts by scanning the hard disk, flash memory and
main memory to detect and remove the virus. This software needs to be
constantly updated to ensure that the virus signature file is always updated
with the latest types of virus threats. Users need to practice precautions such as
scanning every file downloaded from the internet. I use the Avast application
as an antivirus on my laptop.

Here are the steps to use this application :

1. Users need to open this software first. In this application provides
various functions to users such as virus scan, core shield, quarantine,
Wi-Fi inspector, firewall, real site and many more.

2. In this virus scan has a smart scan run to detect malware and other
issues. not only that he also has full virus scan, targeted scan, boot time-
scan and custom scan. I will show you how to use run smart scan. First,
we need to click run smart scan
