The first four projects were targeted at how to be selective when choosing hardware components for a home computer. This week the
project will introduce a few of the layers of the internet that we use every day.

Instructions
Step 1. Research Common Internet Protocols

The following is a list of common internet protocols. Devote some time reading about all of them, and then write a bulleted summary about
each one.  See the example at the bottom of this page.

1. FTP
2. SSH
3. Telnet
4. SMTP
5. DNS
6. POP3
7. IMAP
8. HTTPS
9. ECN
10. PPP
11. RDP
12. NDP
13. SLP
14. AFP
15 DHCP
15. DHCP
16. LDAP
17. SNMP
18. NNTP

Step 2: Write a Bulleted Summary

Use your research to write an executive summary in a bulleted format to communicate the following information:

(a) The full name of the protocol, and on which port does it communicate?

(b) What purpose does the protocol serve?

(c) Which OSI layer is used: Application, Transport, Internet, or Link layer?

(d) Is the protocol still in use or has it been replaced or renamed?

(e) One curious or interesting fact that you discovered in your reading.

Need help? Check out these resources:

Wikipedia will be the best resource for finding good answers on one page.
Your summary should be concise and look like this:
FTP is the File Transfer Protocol and communicates over ports 20 and 21
Purpose: Transfer computer files from one computer to another.
OSI layer: Application Layer
Is it still used? : Yes, it is still widely used every day.
Fact: Transfers can be 3 different modes: Stream, Block, or Compressed.

Grading
There are 18 internet protocols listed in the instructions above.  You will receive one point for answering each of the five questions about
each protocol, for a total of 5 points per protocol, or 90 points total.
