The term "Art of the Philippines" refers to works of art that have evolved and
accumulated in the Philippines since the country's inception until the present day. It examines
artistic influences on the country's culture, including indigenous forms of art and how they
influence the country's art. Here in Cavinti, we are best known in making sambalilo. It is also
known in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest sambalilo in the world, that is why
it has become more featured and considered as the main product here in our town.
“Sambalilo” is our municipality's term for this native handicraft made from pandan
leaves, as indigenous plant that grows in abundance here in Cavinti. The leaves are dried,
flattered and stripped into pieces and will start weaving with a wooden mold called as
“hulmahan” as guide. This product only localized here in Cavinti. Almost all of the adults here in
our municipality knows how to do it. Also, they are teaching it to other young people today.
They are selling this product within the worth of Php. 20.00 to Php. 25.00 per piece. It has
different colors and sizes depending on the customer's preferences, but it's regular circumference
is about 18 inches. This concept of art shows the uniqueness because it has a unique place where
its weaving is done as well as when it comes to its original color and texture. It also shows
Cavintiin's creativity which expresses the Filipino's concept of art. This also shows Cavintiin's
creative mindset. This showcases our country's wonder as well. Within this concept of art, a
beautiful masterpiece was created.
