TOPIC: Human inventions and discoveries

Human inventions and discoveries

Imagine the world without all the things we have now. Imagine no medicines, no cars,
television, or forms of communication. We may wonder how people in the past survived
without all the commodities we have now.
.
Humanity has been shaped by inventions and discoveries, and as we evolve, new
things are invented. From the wheel to spaceships, most inventions do not have a single
creator. Many of them have been created and recreated over and over to become
what they are now.

Archaeological evidence shows that the first humans discovered fire and how to control
it, and since then it has been an essential part of human activities, rituals, and industry.
We could say fire was the first great discovery.

Thousands of years later, the steam engine was created and caused a great impact. It
improved transportation, agriculture, and other industries.

Figuring out what invention in history is the most useful is impossible; all of them have
made humanity what it is.
Interesting Facts

Gasoline.
It is a transparent liquid
derived from petroleum that
powers cars. It was discovered
when trying to get another
derivative called kerosene. It
was discarded at first, but its
potential was recognized by
the end of the XIX century.
Since then, it has been
essential to our transportation
Vaccination

What are vaccines and why are they important?

One of the greatest inventions that has impacted human
health is vaccination. It has saved millions of lives worldwide
and has caused many diseases to disappear. Vaccines
immunize people by mobilizing antibodies (defenses) that
fight the disease so that defenses learn to fight if the body is
exposed to illnesses in the future.

The first time a vaccine was inoculated was in 1796 when

Edward Jenner prevented a child from getting smallpox. A
century before, the Chinese had tried to use an infected skin
tear to immunize against it. The vaccine for smallpox was first
developed in 1798 and by 1979 it was globally eradicated.
Before vaccines, smallpox had killed millions of people. Most
vaccines we still use today were created in the early XX
century and eliminated several terrible illnesses. Vaccines are
older than antibiotics or anesthesia.
