Subject: EDPCK 103 (TTH 2:30-3:30) LESSON 10.1

Task 1. Gather the information about Grading and Reporting Practiced in the K to 12
Curriculum. Find a copy of the DepEd order No. 33, s. 2004, and read the grading and
reporting system of elementary and secondary public schools. This can be done by
two’s in a group. These are the areas to be discussed:
1. Guidelines for rating Elementary Pupils

2. Components of the pupils/students grade

The component of the pupils’ grade are: Periodic test, Quizzes, Unit Test,
performance, Output project, assignment and behaviour. The periodic test is the
summative assessment of student’s learning at the end of the quarter. The quiz
is the summative assessment of student’s learning at the end of the lesson,
quizzes given for formative purposes are not considered in the computation of
the student’s grade but as basis for making decision wither to proceed to the next
lesson or not. Unit test is the summative assessment of student’s learning at the
end of the unit. Participation/performance involve the learning process of each
learners individually or by group demonstration of a skill or process. Output is the
product of a skill or process. Assignment are the work usually done outside the
classroom in preparation for the next lesson and may involve an application or
extension of students learning. Lastly, the behaviour, as the observable
manifestation of students feeling, thoughts and attitude. Every component had a
different rating base on the subject it is in lined with.
3. Levels of Assessment
In assessing learning outcomes, the construction of the test design should
consist of 60% basic items, 30% more advanced items and 10% items for
distinguishing honor students. Questions in each category should have different
weights. The test and non-test items should cover only materials actually taken
up in class.

4. Levels of Proficiency
In line with the thrust to continuously improve the quality of learning outcomes,
the lowest passing grade or the minimum performance standards for students in
public elementary or secondary school is set at 75 percent for SY 2004- 2005
and school year thereafter. The lowest failing grade that may appear in the
report card is set at 65 percent.

5. Grading System Used

Grading system by subject shall follow the guidelines in enclosure 1 and the
percentage weights allocated to the test and non-test factors indicated in
enclosure 2. Rubrics, where appropriate are provided to assess performance in
each of the following components: participation/performance. Projects/output,
assignments, among others.

Transmutation table shall not be used in computing grades. Test score should be
recorded as raw score, totalled at the end of each grading period and then
computed as percentage. [(students’ score ÷ highest possible score) x 100].The
final grade shall be determine by averaging the marks for the four quarters.
1. As a future teacher, what did you learn from the practices on grading and
reporting system of the K to 12 curriculum in the Philippines? Give five
bulleted answers.

Lyca B. Barnuevo
I learned that…
 In grading system there are guidelines to be followed in order to avoid biases
among the pupils.
 In each subject there are different percentage on different components.
 In pupil’s grade there are eight components and each components correspond
different ratings in each subject.
 In assessing the learning of the pupils 60% are basic items and 30% for advance
items and to identify the honor pupils who excel in the class 10% are given.
 The lowest grade to be given is 65% and the passing grade is 75%.

Karen S. Algora
I learned that…
 Grading system is a method used by the Teachers to assess students’
performance in class.
 In computing percentage grades of the students there are two methods the
averaging and cumulative method.
 The teachers can make a checklist in order to indicate the performance of the
students in each aspect of learning target.
 Grading system is very important especially to me as a future Teacher because it
is where I can measure and determine my pupils’ learning.
 The minimum grade needed to pass a learning area is75%
