2020 Letter of Motivation

Dear Madam,

With this letter, I would like to express my interest in studying at University of Stavanger
included in the SEE programme.
I am currently studying at University Alexandru Ioan Cuza, Faculty of Letters. I am in the
second year at the programme of study Romanian Language and Literature- English
Language and Literature.
Having looked through the info materials provided by the SEE programme, I was very
delighted to find the opportunity to spend the second semester of 2020-2021 year at the
University of Stavanger from Norway. I consider that this university is a great choice for me
because its course offer sparked my interest since I have searched which university from
Norway would fit me better. The Faculty of Arts and Education from Stavanger offers two
exchange courses that draw my attention. These are Drama and Intercultural Communication
and English Language and Literature.
The Drama and Intercultural Communication course offer combines pedagogy and drama.
As well, the English Language and Literature course is a great opportunity too in order to
achieve more knowledge for my second specialization.
Related to the first course offer, since I was in primary school I became fascinated by the
theatrical arts and acting which lead me to practice theater. For nine years, from 4 th grade and
until the 11th grade I attented the theater courses at the Palatul Copiilor from Iași. There, I
was part of the Retrochic team where I practised puppet show, pantomime and classic theater.
I had the opportunity to go to festivals around the country with my team: in Arad at the
Teatrix Festival in 2016, for second times in Târgoviște in 2016 and 2017 at the Chindia
Domnească Festival where I received the special award for female interpretation, in
Bucharest, in Sighișoara where I also received the award for the best actress in the main role.
Besides the best memories from my childhood and teenage years, practising the theater
courses for so many years carved my personality and made me a sociable person, a good
listener and developed the enjoyment of discovering new experiences. In addition, I learned
the importance of team work and patience because without hard work and rehearsels you
can’t perform on stage and of course, in reaching personal goals.
Taking these into account made me believe that being admitted to this university would
represent an important step in my future career because it would mean to continue my hobby
as a manner of teaching students. I consider the thought of combining drama in the act of
teaching represents a change of perspective in the Romanian educational system that would
make a progress for both teachers and students in the procress of studying. A teacher that can
capture the attention of the students besides the informations he must share is an important
aspect to take into consideration for the future generations of professors.
Another reason that made me think of this opportunity is the choice of studying Norwegian
Language and culture as an optional course at my university. This thing could give me an
advantage if I would be accepted in the programme because I would be introduced in the way
of thinking and living of this country.
In the end, I hope my ambitions and thoughts exposed in the current letter caught your
attention.
Thank you for considering my request. I look forward to your positive response.
Your faithfully,
Bianca Ciutea
