ASSIGNMENT:

Worksheet 1 The photo below is a cave painting in Brazil from 10,000 BC. Write an
interpretation of what you can visualize on the painting and then describe the period where it
could have been found. Minimum of 200 words.

I see a five man fighting a bull. They fight the bull because they are hunting it to get some food.
It was a mesolithic stage or middle stone age. The Mesolithic Period, or Middle Stone Age, is an
archeological term describing specific cultures that fall between the Paleolithic and the Neolithic
Periods. While the start and end dates of the Mesolithic Period vary by geographical region, it
dated approximately from 10,000 BCE to 8,000 BCE. That time, one of the most common art
was rock painting or rock art. Also, mesolithic paintings or art are red and black because they
only use charcoal and ochre. A number of notable Mesolithic rock art sites exist on the
Mediterranean coast of Spain. The art consists of small painted figures of humans and animals,
which are the most advanced and widespread surviving from this period in Europe and possibly
worldwide. Notably, this collection is the largest concentration of such art in Europe. The human
figure is frequently the main theme in painted scenes. When in the same scene as animals, the
human runs towards them. Hunting scenes are the most common, but there are also scenes of
battle and dancing, and possibly agricultural tasks and managing domesticated animals. In some
scenes gathering honey is shown, most famously at Cuevas de la Araña en Bicorp.

Worksheet 2

Reflection: How do you think Prehistoric Art and Ancient Egypt Art influenced the kind of
art that you know at present? Cite examples of artworks that existed in the early ages, which
paved the way for the development of modern artworks that we can see in this day and age.
(Minimum of 200 words Maximum of 300.)

- The Egyptians' greatest impact on modern art was part of a style called Art Deco. This
modern art, architecture, and design movement featured clean, simple, symmetrical,
streamlined looks with ornamentation. Common motifs or forms in this style include
papyrus plants, scarabs, wings, pyramids, sphinxes, and an interest in Cleopatra. Popular
examples of this style include the Chrysler Building in New York, South Beach in
Miami, and The Great Gatsby movie (2013). Further influence can be seen in more
contemporary buildings and hotels, including the Luxor in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Bass
Pro Shops in Memphis, Tennessee. People all over the world are still fascinated with the
opulence and the mystery surrounding the Egyptians and their elaborate burials and
continue to build with these motifs in mind.

Society is influenced by art in many different ways. It changes opinions, instills values,
and translates experiences across space and time. As art is viewed in this sense, it is
regarded as communication. It is a way for people from different cultures and times to
share stories, images, and sounds with one another. It is often through art that social
change can be achieved.
