CHEMISTRY

SECTION – A (3x1=3)

1. Name a non-metal which show lustrous property. [1]

2. Give an example for a metal in liquid state and a non-metal in gaseous state. [1]

3. Read the statements of Assertion and Reason and choose the correct option given below : [1]
a) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true and Reason (R) is the correct
explanation of assertion (A)
b) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true and Reason (R) is not the correct
explanation of assertion (A)
c) Assertion(A) is true but reason (R) is false
d) Assertion (A) is false but reason (R) is true

Assertion: Metals are generally sonorous in nature

Reason: Non-metals when hammered produce a ringing sound.

SECTION-B (1x2=2)

which dissolves in water and turns blue litmus paper to red. [5]

(i) Identify the name of the element ‘X’ and the compound ‘XO 2’.
(ii) Write the chemical equation for the reaction of ‘XO2’ with water and also mention
the chemical name of the product formed.
(iii) Is ‘XO2’ acidic or basic in nature? Justify.
(OR)
b) State two reasons for the following fact: Phosphorus is a non-metal
c) What kind of handle does screw driver have and why?
d) “There are two materials A and B. On hammering ‘A’ is flattened, but ‘B’ breaks.”
