IV. Calculation and analysis questions. (60 points in total)
1. A single lane simply supported concrete beam bridge with a hollow
rectangular section has a span of L=12 m. The traffic load class is
Highway-II with 550 kN the standard vehicle weight. The density of

concrete  is 2100 kg/m3, elastic modulus E is 3.00104 MPa. The bridge


size and section details are shown in the following figure. Please calculate
the moment at the mid span under the impact force of standard vehicle
weight. (12 points)

2. The calculated span of a concrete bridge is 17.5 m, the diaphragm spacing is
3.2 m. The traffic load class is Highway-I. The girder consists of 4 T-shaped
beams with the 1.5 m center distance of the girders. The bridge deck is paved
with 8 cm thick concrete cushion with 20 kN/m3 unit weight. The T-beam is
120 mm in flange thickness, 200 mm in web width, and the 1200 mm in web
height. The unit weight of T-beam material is 25 kN/m3. Calculate the bending
moment at middle and support locations of the bridge deck under front wheel
of standard vehicle. (Impact coefficient =0.3) (18 points)

3. The figure below shows a simply-supported beam bridge with five identical
T-shaped beams. The transverse arrangement of the bridge deck is 0.4m (anti-
collision wall) + 8.2m (2 vehicle lanes) + 0.4m (anti-collision wall). Please
calculate the distribution coefficients mq (for vehicle load) of Beam-1 at the
mid-span point using the eccentric compression method. (15 points)

4. The figure below shows a simply-supported beam bridge with five identical

T-shaped beams. The transverse arrangement of the bridge deck is 0.4m (anti-
collision wall) + 8.2m (2 vehicle lanes) + 0.4m (anti-collision wall). Please
calculate the distribution coefficients mq (for vehicle load) of Beam-2 near the
bearing supports using the lever principle method. (15 points)
