I translated the

Boku No Hero Academia Vol. 2 Light Novel  Chapter 1 “Various Study Sessions” for

the long scene with Bakugou & Kirishima’s study  date  sessions at the library and the family

restaurant. Points to note in this is Bakugou smiling happily at Kirishima and Kirishima standing up

for Bakugou when talking to his middle school friends. Enjoy~

At the local library, there were two others who were studying together for the upcoming exams.

Kirishima begged Bakugou to help him study, saying “I’m counting on you, Bakugou!”

Bakugou stared at him and said, “You’re so loud, shitty hair!”

Kirishima Eijirou and Bakugou Katsuki were sitting at a table that was getting nice sunlight, right in

the middle of the library, and the people sitting around them glared at the two, wishing that they could

pipe down.

Kirishima looked around and said, “I’m so sorry!”

As Kirishima tried to apologize to those around him, he accidentally used a loud voice to do so as

well, and a middle age man approached them and said, “you sure thing you’re all high and mighty,

don’t you?” He sneered at them.

Because today was Sunday, the library was full of people ranging from families bringing their small

children to school to students who wanted to get some studying done all the way up to the elderly. You

might be asking why these two chose to even study together, right? Well, that has something to do

with Yaoyorozu.

Previously during class, Yaoyorozu was placed first in grades ranking, and Bakugou was placed third.

Kirishima saw that Yaoyorozu offered to tutor Kaminari and the others and turned to Bakugou, and

joked, “Talk about a difference in humanity.”

Bakugou then yelled, “I can do that too! You shit, I’ll murder you with my tutoring!”

Kirishima then seriously took him up for that offer, also just so you know, Kirishima placed 15th in

class.

Kirishima asked Bakugou in a smaller voice, “You know, you should have just come over to my house

to study.”
Bakugou looked at him with disinterest, saying, “You think I want to go all the way to your house? So

damn troublesome!”

Kirishima then said, “Well then, what about your house?”

Bakugou replied, “My mom is annoying as hell. Damnit, are we done with the small talk?!”

“Yeah! Uh…sorry…”

Kirishima used a small voice to once again apologize to the people around them. The library was

definitely a place where they could escape from the hustle and bustle of the outside world, although it

wasn’t really connected with what their intentions were.

He just needed Bakugou to tutor him properly otherwise he wouldn’t be able to go to the field trip in

the forest.

Bakugou said to him, “Can you quit apologizing to these damn people? What are you, an idiot? Yeah,

definitely an idiot!”

Kirishima countered, “Well, I’m NOT an idiot. Even though I’m NOT an idiot, I’m definitely stupider

than you are, so just tutor me, damnit!”

Bakugou said, “Okay fine, listen up because I’m only going to say it once.”

Kirishima exclaimed, “Oh!!! Ah…”

“Hurry the hell up and show me the problem then!”

Kirishima flipped through his text book and said, “Okay, then the first thing is…this here!”

Without paying attention to those sitting around them, Kirishima noisily brought out his textbook and

opened it and pointed to the problem, which was about quadratic functions.

Kirishima said, “I’m not really good at math.”

“But it’s freaking easy though?”

As Bakugou said that, he quickly did the answer and showed Kirishima.
“There, like that!”

Kirishima narrowed his eyes and smiled bitterly and said, “Uh…I don’t want the answer, I want you to

teach me how to get that answer.”

“Well, if you want the answer then all you gotta do is just calculate to get the answer, dumbass!”

“That’s exactly the problem though- I don’t know what to calculate to get that answer!”

“What? Math is just about calculating shit though?”

“Wait a minute, okay so let’s start over. I want you to TEACH ME how to get that answer by showing

me your calculations!”

Bakugou scoffed and said, “But like I said, you just fucking do the equation!”

Kirishima then said, “No, that’s not it! I need you to teach it to me in an easier way…”

Bakugou rebutted, “Oh my freaking god, you just need to do this calculation and do it LIKE THIS

DAMNIT!”

The two kept on going on like this. Bakugou then frowned as he watched Kirishima try to solve the

answer and looked very serious as he thought to himself, “What in the world?”

Kirishima held his head in frustration.

Bakugou really was a genius, capable of understanding just by glancing at it. He had no trouble when

it came to studying. However, since Bakugou didn’t know what hardship was, that in itself was hard

for Kirishima to wrap his mind around.

Bakugou then said to Kirishima, “Okay here, all you gotta do is obliterate and conduct this calculation

and then absolutely freaking SMASH the other calculation and that’s it. You’re done!”

After saying those words, it seemed like that was all he had to teach Kirishima. Hearing Bakugou give

Kirishima such rough advice, a lone tear trailed down his face as he gave him a big thumbs up. He

exclaimed, “THAT WAS SUCH A MANLY WAY OF TEACHING!”

Bakugou, confused, said, “Eh?”

Bakugou drew together his eyebrows and looked at Kirishima’s expression and narrowed his eyes at

him.

“Wait a minute, idiot…don’t tell me you don’t even know the multiplication table and want me to

teach you that?!”

Kirishima shouted, “I KNOW HOW TO DO THE MULTIPLICATION TABLE, DAMNIT!!!”

Oops. Everyone around them glared at the two as they raised a finger to their lips to hush them.

Without thinking, Kirishima used the loudest voice thus far today and because of that, he

embarrassingly turned red. Bakugou looked at how flustered Kirishima was and let out a genuine

laugh.

“Man, you’re so lame haha!”

“Well, you’re the one who said I didn’t even know the freakin’ multiplication table!!!”

Kirishima then apologized to those around them once more. A young boy came up to them, clutching a

picture book. He looked at them with wide eyes.

Bakugou glared at the boy and said, “What do you want, kid?”

Kirishima said, “Oh? Are you lost?”

Kirishima looked at the boy and tried to see if he was okay, but the boy shook his head and said

“Unn…” and pointed at Bakugou.

The boy said, “You’re the guy who was contained after you won the Championships at the U.A. Sports

Festival!”

“What?”

“Why were you in chains? Was it because you were too loud? Will you be restrained since you’re

really loud in the library too?”

At the Sports Festival, no one was able to get to Bakugou even though he was the winner of the

tournament, and he was restrained at the Awards Ceremony. As the innocent pointed this out to him,
he remembered how embarrassingly Todoroki just gave up in the middle of the tournament, letting

Bakugou win without a real fight.

“Shut the hell up, you little brat!!!”

Even Kirishima couldn’t hold him back, and Bakugou exploded in the library at the child. The child

probably never had anyone yell at him so angrily before, and because of that he started crying

uncontrollably. Kirishima quickly interjected, “I…I’m so so sorry!!!”

Taking this as their queue to leave, Kirishima dragged Bakugou outside and left the library.

After the two left, Kirishima exclaimed, “Man, it’s nice to finally be able to talk freely now that we’re

in a noisier environment! Right, Bakugou?”

Bakugou responded, “Do whatever, dumbass.”

Kirishima and Bakugou ended up in a family restaurant after leaving the library. Even though they got

there in the afternoon after the lunch rush, because it was a weekend, the restaurant was still very

crowded and bustling. They thought that studying at a family restaurant would be better since they

could then talk normally.

The waitress then came up to then and asked, “Hi, may I take your order?”

Kirishima said enthusiastically, “We’ll get two drink bar menu options!” (T/N drink bars is a self-

serve all you can drink area).

After the waitress took their order and left, Bakugou said to Kirishima, “Hey, you’re paying right?”

As Bakugou bent over and leaned forward to eye him, Kirishima smiled with all his strength and

answered, “Of course, leave it to me! Then you gotta teach me patiently, though!”

Bakugou then rebutted, “You think that I’ll be able to teach shit patiently with only having a drink bar,

dumbass?”

The waitress then arrived at their table and said cheerfully, “Thank you for waiting. Please feel free to

help yourself to the drink bar over there.”

Kirishima then got up and said, “I’ll go get us some drinks. What would you like?”

Bakugou replied, “Coke.”

Kirishima then said, “All right! Got it!”

As Kirishima got up to go to the drink bar, two others also got up at the same time and stood in front

of Bakugou’s table. They said, “Oh no way, is that you, Katsuki?”

“What?”

As Kirishima came back holding the two drinks, he saw that there were two people at their table. He

thought to himself, “What the?”

There was a boy with black curly hair and another boy with his hair parted down the middle, talking to

Bakugou in a friendly manner.

“I didn’t think we’d ever meet you here!”

“I saw you at the Sports Festival, man!”

Bakugou yelled, “Shut up you two!’

Kirishima turned to Bakugou and asked, “Bakuguo, who are these guys? An acquaintance of yours?”

The boy with the parted hair said, “Oh! You’re also from U.A. Academy!”

Bakugou looked at Kirishima and said, “They’re friends from middle school. Anyway, go back to your

own damn table!”

His friends said, “As cold as ever!”

His two friends got up and frowned at Bakugou. Kirishima then turned to the two and smiled, “Oh, it’s

all good! Feel free to join us!”

“Wait, is that okay?”

Kirishima replied, “Oh yeah for sure! I’m sure you guys want to catch up, right?”
Bakugou interjected, “You think I want to fucking catch up with them? Aren’t we here to study?”

Kirishima said, “It’s okay if it’s just for a little while. You need to always treasure your friends, after

all!”

The curly haired friend looked at Kirishima’s manly aura and smile and narrowed his eyes. He said,

“What’s up with you man? Never would’ve guessed that someone who’s nice like you would ever want

to be friends with Katsuki!”

Bakugou and Kirishima then yelled out at the same time, “What the fuck do you mean, you piece of

shit?”

Kirishima said first, “Bakugou might have a bad attitude and is a total potty mouth, but he has real

determination, making him a very passionate guy!”

Bakugou heard Kirishima’s words and frowned, saying, “Damnit shity hair, stop saying weird shit like

that!”

Kirishima said, “Yeah, like I said, huge potty mouth. I’m trying to praise you here!”

Kirishima then became very curious and figured that since the guy with the divided hair knew Bakugou

from way back when, he asked “Hey, what was Bakugou like in Middle School?”

“Uh…well…kind of like how he is right now?”

“With freaking high self-esteem.”

“As if the world revolves around him and only him!”

Bakugou the cut in, “You little shits, I’m going to crush you all! What the?” He prepared his fist.

His friend then exclaimed, “Woah, that’s not really hero material, especially if you wanna go pro in

the future!”

“Shut the fuck up and get out of my way, you shit friends!”

As he said that, he made the guy with curly hair move out of his way, and he took his drink and made

his way to the drink bar. This time he went to get his own drink.
His friends then turned back to Kirishima and said, “Well…he certainly has calmed down a bit since

middle school though.”

They watched as Bakugou left the area, and the boy with the divided hair said, “Yeah, maybe” as they

both nodded in agreement.

“When he was in middle school, he would legit hit anyone with one shot. And he would never agree to

tutoring someone like he is now- I can’t believe it!”

The other boy nodded, “Yup, I guess U.A. Academy sure has changed him! How is Katsuki like in

U.A. then?”

The two boys asked Kirishima, and he thought a bit about this before answering.

“It’s like I just said to you guys already, he’s a super sincere guy, and being with him feels really nice.

He’s so capable, and I think everyone recognizes that about him.”

As he said that, Kirishima asked a bit more about Bakugou’s past, and he recalled when they first

entered the school. When they first met at U.A., Bakugou was always so irritable and always quick to

argue with anyone who crossed paths with him. The person who he always got angry at was Midoriya

too.

Kirishima then asked, “Oh hey I also heard that Midoriya is in your class back at middle school too,

right?”

As he said that, both of the guys wore a vague expression as they said, “Uh..” while gritting their

teeth.

Kirishima recalled how Midoriya was like when they first entered U.A. Even though he had an

amazing quirk, he didn’t know how to use it properly and always injured himself. Even though he had

a power that he could only half use, he was still a very diligent person, if not a bit strange, but he

wasn’t very confident.

One of Bakugou’s friends said, “I think that Katsuki lost his shit when he heard that Midoriya got into

U.A, y’know…”
The curly hair guy laughed bitterly and ducked his head as he said, “Um? Uh…actually we kind of

bullied Midoriya a lot back then, since he didn’t even have a quirk.”

“But apparently he has one now so…”

“Yeah, I saw it on T.V. during the Sports Festival- I couldn’t believe that he actually placed first in a

round too- it gave me goosebumps! I thought it really was awesome!”

“Same…”

As the two boys spoke, a slight feeling of regret spread in their tone and wore pained expressions on

their faces.

Kirishima didn’t understand the feelings of those who were cowards and made fun of others. Even

though he couldn’t empathize with them, he couldn’t blame them since they seemed to regret their

actions from before. The only people who could say anything was the person who was affected, after

all, even though the affected party was, well…

Kirishima said, “I’m sure Midoriya would be very happy if he heard you guys say that! Or maybe he

would get flustered?”

Midoriya, who strived so hard to become the hero that All Might was, would probably just laugh it off

anyway. Or maybe he would even forgive them and not even have any lingering feelings. Kirishima

felt that Midoriya was the kind of person who wanted to save people who were hurt in one way or

another, the kind of person who would just take a breath and do the right thing.

Bakugou’s friends said, “Yeah, you’re probably right.”

“He’s a nice guy, after all” said the boy with the divided hair, relieved at that.

It seemed like a small weight was lifted from the hearts of these two boys and this conversation was

able to give them better insight.

“But you know, we can’t say these things in front of Katsuki. Remember how in the tournament he

tried to burn everything? When he was fighting that ice dude!”

“And when Midoriya fought with him! It was super cool and intense!”
“Yeah, when he tried to fight back without thinking, I was like woahhh!”

“It seemed like Midoriya tried his best to return the attacks! I thought, woah if he wins this, then he

would be up against Katsuki!”

“What the fuck did you guys say about Deku?”

Kirishima turned around and saw Bakugou standing and holding a coke in one hand with an angry look

on his face. He stared them down.

“Someone said Deku was super cool? What the fuck? If you’re sleep talking then sleep and talk! Are

you guys fucking blind? I’ll make sure that you see a real pretty explosion in the back of your

heads!!!!!!!”

Kirishima quickly interjected, “Bakugou! Calm down!!”

“Shut up! I need to teach these shitty friends a lesson!”

One of his friends said, “Heh, looks like he hasn’t changed at all when anyone mentions Midoriya

though~!”

Bakugou spat at him saying, “Don’t go saying Deku’s shitty name!!!”

“Katsuki, stop it!!!”

As Bakugou tried to grab the two friends as they were trying to escape, Kirishima stood up, and the

table shook, causing the glass cups to topple and fall onto the floor, breaking them.

Bakugou’s anger was on a whole different level, and the other customers in the restaurant glared at

them. They chattered among themselves, saying:

“Where have I seen that boy before?”

“Oh! Is he from U.A.?”

“Oh, he’s the boy from that slime incident!”

“Wait, he’s the one who got tied up at the Sports Festival!”
“Oh…oh yeah!”

As Bakugou listened to the patrons gossiping about him, he became even more furious.

“Shut the fuck up, all of you shitty customers, SHUT!!! THE FUCK!!! UP!!! GO BACK TO

EATING!!!!!!”

Just then, a staff member came up to them and said, “Excuse me, sir!”

The staff members placed his hand on Bakugou’s shoulder and forced him to turn around. The staff

member was actually the owner of the restaurant, with his status clearly written on his name plate.

“You’re bothering the other customers, so please be a bit quiet…”

However, words alone could not stop Bakugou’s fury, and if they could, then the world would be a

better place.

Bakugou yelled, “Shut up you piece of shit! I’m also a customer, you know!!!”

“You’re bothering other customers, so that means that you are in fact, not a customer here. Our

establishment does not serve trash.”

Bakugou and the others were then forced out of the restaurant.

Bakugou turned to them and said, “Goddamnit, why the hell did you guys bring up Deku? This is all

shitty Deku’s fault!!!”

Kirishima said again, “Calm down, Bakugou!!”

His two friends then waved and said, “Well, see you later then!” and quickly left.

Kirishima watched as they patted his back and left. He thought to himself that even though Bakugou

was easily angered, he definitely had calmed down a bit ever since they first entered U.A. Academy.

However, he felt like it was still a long way to go for defuse Bakugou’s quick temper.

Also, it seemed like the textbooks and pen case in Kirishima’s bag still had a while to go before they

could be used during their study sessions.

END~

T/N: YES, BAKUGOU GENUINELY LAUGHED AT A FLUSTERED KIRISHIMA AND ALL IS GOOD

WITH THE WORLD. The rest of the chapter is with Yaoyorozu and the others studying at her house,

but it’s pretty lengthy, and I think a translation for that is available somewhere.  I was requested to

translate the KiriBaku part since there were lots of translation errors in a pre-existing translation.
