1. What is hematology / hemato-oncology ?

Ans. Hematology / hemato oncology is the branch of science deals with with cancer and non
cancer disorders of following four liquid organs.
A) Blood cells,
B)Bone marrow cells(production unit),
C)Lymph nodes (Development area) ,
D)Spleen(Storage and Filter organ)
2. What diseases does a hemato-oncologists / hematologists treat ?
Ans- Deceases arising from all four liquid organs which can be either cancerous /Malignant;--
Leukaemia(ALL,AML,CLL,CML,Myelofibrosis,Myelodysplastic
syndromes),Lymphoma(Hodgkin’s and Non Hodgkin’s), Myeloma and,,
Non Cancerous ;-- Pancytopenia, Aplastic Anaemia, Pyrexia of unknown origin, ITP,
TTP,DVT,Hemophilia, Thalassemia, Sickle cell anaemia excetra

3. Why would you need a hematology /Hemato oncologist consultation?

Ans- This opinion/ consultation is required for bone marrow transplant, cancer, non cancer
disease. We know that unlike solid organs ( brain, liver, lung , stomach etc) blood is not
limited/restricted to one particular. So if its not detected on time or even if detected on time but
not properly guided and most important monitored on time then we may not achieve desired
quality outcome.
4. What are cancerous hematological disorders/ liquid organ disorders ?
Ans-Leukemia(ALL,AML,CLL,CML,MDS,Myelofibrois),Lymphoma(Hodgkin and Non
Hodgkin s),Plasma cell disorders including Multiple Myeloma
5. How these cancerous hematological (liquid organ) disorders differs from solid organ
cancers?
Ans-All the four liquid organs are closely linked with each other , starting from their origin to
development , functions and subsequently their removal from the blood circulation by Spleen .
Moreover blood cells are our Police-mans and Army. So if there is a delay in the detection and
standard to detect treatment can lead to advanced stage more chances of failure , higher hospital
billing, Poor mental and Physical stress for patients and family. We can minimize unnecessarily
investigations and treatment including, repeated Bone marrow examinations and Blood
transfusions.
6. I don't have cancer so why do i need to show to hemato-oncologist /hematologist ?
Ans-A Pure hematologist also do treats non cancerous disorders of children’s, adults as well as
elderly populations which are even more serious than cancerous. For example Congenital immune
deficiencies ,Aplastic anemia, Pancytopenia ,TTP, HLH.
7. Is it possible to detect these critical disorders like blood cancer,, lymphoma, myeloma
early ?
Ans- Everything is possible in life subjected to right guidance at early stage. Identifying Early
signs and symptoms will help in early detection. Symptoms like persistent fever, Unexplained
weight loss, Decreased food intake, Weakness , Reddish / Bluish spots over the skin, Nodular
swelling on Neck, Arm pits are few of examples. Now a days routine master health check ups are
being done, in that most common test is complete blood count (CBC/CBP). If this test has been
done at good center and analyzed by a good hematologist, and then if we club this tests along
with good physical examination ,more than 70% of these critical but highly curable hematological
disorders can picked early.

8. What are tests required to detect early for the good outcome ?
Ans--Doing blood tests alone is not sufficient to diagnose solid/liquid disorders at early stage
What matters is who is interpreting/ analyzing these tests and where these tests are being done.
Now a days based on the marketing there are lots of laboratories who are doing the tests at lessor
cost without giving attention to the quality, leading to either missing the diagnosis or making more
diagnosis subsequently doing battery of another investigation

9. We heard like blood cancers or leukemia are not curable. What s the truth in this?
Ans-In acute leukemia (ALL,AML) there are always chances of cure. Success in the life based on
the Probabilities/possibilities , not on guarantee. If before starting the treatment of itself, if we
know the 100% of success then we humans itselfs are God. We have examples of Acute leukemia
cases to whom Dr.Gupta sir has treated got married having kids and now doing jobs.

10. What i have to careful while i go to any oncologist or hospital for any liquid organ
disorders treatment ?
Ans-Try to avoid a doctor who is treating both solid organ ( Medical oncology) and branding
himself as a combined medical oncologist and hematologist. Even though they have treated earlier
and now also they may be treating. Buth the time, and extra quality care matters a lot in treating
hematological/Hematooncological cancers.
11. What is oncology and its relation with hematology ?
Ans-Oncology deals with cancer deceases. There are four specialization in oncology. Medical
oncology, Surgical oncology, Radiation Oncology are related with treatment of Solid
Organs(Brain, head ,neck, breast, lung uterus, liver, prostate, bones etc). While fourth
specialization is related with more delicate / Fragile/ Critical liquid organs(Blood Cells, Bone
marrow cells, Spleen, lymph nodes and its limited cancerous diseases like leukemia, lymphoma
and myeloma. Hemato oncologists they do treats non cancer disorders of this four liquid
12. I don't have any hemato-oncology cancer(leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma) , still, is it
better to take Dr SK Gupta sir opinion for solid organs (breast, brain, prostate, liver etc) ?
Ans- When ever we hear a shocking news about cancer affected with our known to or family
members or known to what will be the first few things will comes our mind.
1. He / She Will Not Survive
2. What is the stage of this cancer
3. Let us go to one of the branded hospital or visit our family doctor or let meet one of our earlier
cancer specialist Doctor who have treated one of our friend/Relative.

All of these are true but science has progressed so much that a single speciality oncology doctor
cant provide quality care , so always unbiased opinion should be taken from another doctor and Dr
SK Gupta is one of them. He is committed to provide personalised , patient related outcome care ,
which few understand and even very few apply in their daily patient care.
