Week 1 Module - Eunice Dimple Caliwag
Ballroom Dance - is a partnership dance where couples, using step patterns, move
rhythmically, expressing the characteristics of music. Any of the various social dances,
such as the fox trot, tango, or waltz, is considered a ballroom dance.
Modern Dance - is a creation of movements to match a dancer's feelings and purpose.
Any moves are fine as long as you learn to execute them well and with meaning. It is a
younger art form than ballet and the movement style centers on the dancer's own
interpretations instead of the standardized movements.
Folk Dance - is a typical form of Dance that is usually extensively performed in rural
areas. It talks of the folklore of the village plight. It is a traditional type of Dance
pertaining to one set of people or community. The costumes are interesting and usually
depict the traditional dress of the community.
Hip Hop - is a style of movement characterized by bounces and rocks executed to Hip
Hop music. It is a vibrant form of dance that combines a variety of freestyle movements
to create a cultural piece of art.
Jazz Dance - it combines techniques of classical ballet and modern dance with the
current forms of popular dance. It has its own movement vocabulary ranging from the
isolation of certain body parts to the movement of the entire body with the accents of
musical rhythms.
Ballet – is usually accepted all over the world as one of the most artistic forms of
entertainment enjoyed by all ages. This Dance is the combination of choreography and
art, scenic design, lighting, costume, graceful movements with light classical music.
Ceremonial Dance – is performed during any ceremonies or for any religious rituals. It is
also called as ritual Dance or festival dance. Ceremonial Dance is often related and
overlaps to sacred Dance and ecstatic dance type. This type of Dance is usually
performed to uplift the community spirit.
Social Dance – it is partner dancing that is relaxed, informal, and danced for the
enjoyment and entertainment of the partners that are intended for participation rather
than performance. Social dance is usually performed or enjoyed in wedding receptions,
business functions, nightclubs, or informal gatherings
