Mixed Media Evaluation

First looking at this art I feel both happy and sad. The page is divided into two sections. A face is

split by a line in the middle of the piece. On the left side, there is a tree, some flowers, books,

light colours, and rainbows. The left side of the face looks normal and bright. This side of the

artwork is happy. The right side of the artwork has broken, red shards of glass and tears. The

colours used here are red and black. The sections on the right side are divided by sharp, shard-

looking walls. The right side of the face is dark and sad. The girl’s hair is spun into spiderwebs.

This artwork was made with pencil crayons, paint, markers, magazine cutouts, and coloured

paper.

Some elements used are texture and colour. The shards of glass look sharp because they have

points, not round edges. On the left side, the leaves and clouds look smooth because their sides

are curvy and round. Some principles used are balance and movement. Both sides of the paper

are the same size and are both filled with lots of small drawings, which gives the artwork

balance. There is movement in the piece because of the dripping water and the falling glass.

The message of the piece is that everyone has a good side and a bad side. Nobody is entirely

good or bad. They can be more of one, but everyone is a little bit of both. The dark colours and

sad drawings show a person’s bad side. The left side uses bright colours and makes you feel

happy, which shows the good side of a person.

I was successful in using lots of different types of mediums and lots of variety. The artwork is

also not boring to look at. When other people see my artwork, I think they will say that it has a

strong message. Some people would have gone for a lighter message and not made it so light and
dark. To improve my artwork, I think that it could be neater and more zentangle patterns could

have been used.
