Describe:
I made 3 dragons, but this evaluation is for the biggest dragon that I made ink prints with. The
lino prints are different colors, including blue, green, pink, purple, and silver. Some of them are
mixed colors. They are prints of a cute dragon that is, well, sort of fat. Or, at least, that’s what
my friend says. The dragon has lines on his belly, a curved tail, wings, a head, and 4 little chubby
legs. I like these prints and think they’re cute, even though they’re a bit smudged. That would
be my first reaction to the art. I think I would call them Dragon Prints for the title of my piece.
Two elements of art I used are color and space. I also used rhythm and variety. The stamp was
carved out of pink eraser stuff. I forget what it’s called. The prints are made of ink.
Analyze:
Different colors are used in my prints. There are individual colored prints and some with
multiple colors. Green, brown, orange, purple, pink, and silver ink was used to create all my
prints. Secondly, I picked space as an element of art used. When carving out lino prints, I
decided to use the relief method where I carved everywhere out, leaving the shape I wanted
behind. If I used elevation, I would have carved the lines of the dragon out, not carved all
around them. The way I carved left a lot of space and little lines of ink. If I had done it the other
way around, there would have been a very small amount of space left empty. Rhythm and
variety were also used. Rhythm, also called repetition was used because of the similarity
between all my different prints. They were the same print with different colors and ink
thickness. Variety was another principle of art used. I used a variety of different colored ink.
Interpret:
I’m not sure what the message should be for this. Maybe... don’t judge a book by its cover.
When people think of dragons, they think of them as big, mean and scary. This is a tiny, chubby,
cute dragon. If he was a real dragon, he would probably be really nice. In the same way, you
shouldn’t judge people until you get to know them or have proof. I prefer making art of cute
dragons instead of scary dragons. I don’t think that somebody who looked at my art would think
of the message, though they may think that it’s, well, different to make a cute dragon instead of
a sinister one.
Assess:
I put a lot of work into this dragon. It didn’t end up as good as I thought it would, but it’s not
bad. I think I got him to look right. I achieved what type of dragon I wanted him to look like. If I
did it again, I would try harder to get nicer ink prints. Some of them had ink that was too thick,
some too thin. I would have experimented more with colors together in one print. I also think
that I could have carved out some of the spaces better so it wouldn’t smudge. If I had to redo
the assignment, I also think that I would have carved the lines of the dragons out instead of
carving out around it. I think that would have worked better. I would give myself a 78%.
