Objective: Gain an understanding of the process behind Creative Idea generation and its application

Task: Identify design problems of the given product category in NIFT Mumba. Use the Synectics
process with the framework to generate creative ideas for achieving the problem solution, and
innovative concept designs

The task will be conducted in groups of 2 or individually

Step1: For the given product category, in relation to your institute campus, do extensive research on
need finding, challenges, etc. From the key insight gained make a clear problem statement and drive
solution ideas.

Step2: Choose 2 random word (as an analogy trigger)

Step3: Break down each random trigger into associative attributes by stating

i. Physical attributes: Form, material, components etc

ii. Functional attributes: Mechanism, operation, usage, technology etc.
iii. Behaviour/ Feeling: direct or metaphoric
iv. Other Associations: Personal incidents, memory of some association etc.

Step4: Force fit attributes the form idea links by using them as different types of analogies. Number
these ideas and refer them in your idea clusters. You can make doodles of your idea links as well.

Step5: Develop 2 concepts by forming idea clusters (the idea links that were created in Step 4).
Depict your concept with descriptive sketches

Compile the whole process in a Power point presentation.

Please note that each step is carefully followed and documented.

Evaluated criteria:

-Extent of problem exploration

-Extent of idea exploration

- Application of process

-Creative output and articulation of thoughts

Submissions must mention Assignment Code, Topic, Name and Roll No.
