Ans. Yes, the speaker actually liked the piece of work because he asked Rachel to take her master piece for
display in the town.

Ans. The old man was watching the bird.

Ans. The family was standing at the grocery shop on the way to town.

1. Why was Rachel’s family excited about going to the market?


Ans. Rachel and her family were living in a village and very rarely they get chance to visit town. There they can sell
their crops and can buy things they like. Hence , they were excited to move to market
2. How did the canary bring joy into the lives of Rachel and her mother?
Ans. Canary entertain the family with his melodious song. Sometimes the competition was so fierce that the
family laugh very hard. Thus canary lifted the morale of the family.
3. When did Rachel realize that something was wrong with the canary? What does it tell you about Rachel?
Ans. Rachel noticed that canary was sitting motionless on his parch without making any sound of song.
This shows the care of Rachel towards her pet (canary) and her alertness towards the
strange wards of an old man.

1. How did the strangers words affect Rachel? How do they become important in the story?
Ans. The strangers words continuously echoed in Rachel’s mind after seeing the strange behavior of canary.
The words become important when it becomes true that canary act according to the wind.
2. The quilt was Rachel’s masterpiece. Did she do the right thing by exchanging it for the canary? Explain.
Ans. According to me, yes! Rachel did the right thing by exchanging her masterpiece with canary because with
special quality of the bird (to study the wind) Rachel get alert of upcoming.
